ihaveamac.net - Part 2

If you ever remember the old site, I got that one for .NET framework testing and extra stuff. It was on Go Daddy (I have regrets for some reason), but it closed down fast because I was in South Korea at the time, and they wanted something (not going to explain).

Exactly 3 years later (I got the domain on Christmas), ihaveamac.net is back, this time on DreamHost. Right now, I'm on a two-week trial, but I'm ready to pay when it's over. Instead of the .NET framework, I went for PHP, which is more common and almost everywhere.

Most of the stuff I'm creating goes under two parts:
> wiki.ihaveamac.net is a MediaWiki wiki which is written by anyone (with some restrictions and approval) and is based around three areas: Scratch, Roblox, and Minecraft.
> tests.ihaveamac.net is a spot where my tests and creations will go. The front page itself is a test - it gets the contents from ihaveamac.net/s/TestsHomePage, a page stored on another MW wiki.

On this hosting plan, I'm using shared hosting and have unlimited disk space. I can create a lot of scripts for others to use. What would you like to see?  smile

I will do whatever I can to keep all content on the site appropriate for the Scratch community.

Cool! I like how you did the main site as a limited wiki with a custom skin; as I like the way wikis are set up, I've always wanted to do something of that sort.

Nice, simple design.  smile
PHP is nice for just being the standard.

Edit: "Nice, simple design" is a compliment, web sites are best when people keep it simple.

You're able to do it on free hosting (like 000webhost), but it's a pain to do certain stuff without SSH AND you have to use an older version of MediaWiki most likely.

Oh, yeah, I know how you'd do it, but I've just never put in the effort and stuff to actually do it  tongue

I would take it as a compliment anyway.  tongue
I did try to make a simple design, but doing a too simple design, such as a background with no light gradient (it is there, just look) doesn't look right.  hmm

It's simple to install if you know how to use MySQL.

DreamHost did actually have a "one-click install" for MW, but it's an older version so I went and uploaded my own version.

Nah, I mean all the modification and stuff like you've done. I've installed MediaWiki before myself.

Nice website; like veggie, I love how wikis are set up as well, they can make pretty good general-purpose websites when permissions are restricted, as you have demonstrated.

I love the idea of iChatGui, I'll be sure to give it a try if I ever decide to come back to ROBLOX.  tongue

iChatGui was a "success" as I would call it; 12,000 takes and an admin took it (possibly a few more).

I tried doing the main wiki as a private one, but it was a lot of work so I decided to place some restrictions and allow semi-open editing (register to edit). Roblox allows t.co domains so I can use that to post the direct link.  smile

But the wiki isn't limited to Roblox, as some people might think over there.

MySQL seems to be slow, so the wiki is really slow...  hmm

Re: ihaveamac.net - Part 2

I currently just suppressed a bunch of spammy and bad usernames that came on before I put my site here. The same thing happened to wiki.dreamhost.com, and it happened to me. It's stopped coming in though.  smile

Re: ihaveamac.net - Part 2

It seems like MySQL is sometimes slow, from "slow page loading" to "very slow" to "timeout". Then sometimes it's fast and responds within seconds. This might be a DreamHost issue.  hmm
