I have learned by experience (mainly multiple Mac vs. PC topics) that arguing with apple fanboys gets you nowhere, so I'm not even going to try this time.

im not a diehard for anything, and ive used all of those. (well not surface pro, rt, but i have 8 on my pc), and i'd definitely recommend a surface

windows 8 is actually a really good OS

surface works like a desktop
you can even connect to a keyboard and mouse

i'd recommend a surface

I try and be reasonable and not biased, but I am somewhat biased; I really love the overall aesthetic feel of Apple products.

However, as I said an android may be better in the case that she's already familiar with that system.

You kinda fail at being reasonable in <platform>vs. <Apple platform> arguments. 

Like I said, the Surface Pro is fine, but I wouldn't get the RT. Limited app selection, extremely locked down (as much as or worse than Apple products), Windows 8.

My mom's phone is faster and has more applications on it than the PC and has the same pixels as the HDTV in the room, with 4G internet faster than our WiFi and has a decent battery.

Needless to say, it's an Android running ICS, and in a month or two it's probably "mid-range".

Now of course this is a phone, not a tablet, so check out some andro tablets because who knows, they might be twice as good :> I've heard good things about the Nexus line, try some of those. And you can't install Ubuntu or Chromium OS on an iPad if you get bored but you can on a Nexus 7 

Also iPads come with crapple maps, don't they?

And you can't make epic homescreens on papple devices. The customizabiliy of android can't be beat. I'll have to get around to taking a picture of mine.

Currently, no mobile (ARM) processor is as fast as a decent PC/Mac (x86) processor.

Notice there are really slow 10+ year old processors that score less than the Top-of-the-line Nexus 10, but most recent processors, score far above the Nexus 10. Considering the Nexus 10 is a tablet, not a phone, and the fastest one at that, your PC is probably, at least technically, faster than your phone 

Back on topic, has anyone been able to see the Nexus 10 first hand?

I tried to ask her opinion but she's super quiet in these kind of things. Well, she's super-quiet in general as well 

She likes my android tablet, but she also likes iPads, so I guess she likes both 

Hmmm...you're in a predicament then!

You mentioned that she'd be interested in games and apps, and for this I like the App Store.

I don't see my mom's phone on the android list, however my PC processor scores 1619. So a Nexus 10 is about twice as fast as my computer, plus it's based off of Linux not Windoze.

Anyway, as you can see clearly android is faster.

Okay, the nexus is a winner in speed.

There comes a point where you don't need any more speed for a portable device to play games on.

Okay, the nexus is a winner in speed.

Android used Java which is not a native programming language, but has to be interpreted by a Java virtual machine. This means that it requires much more CPU power to do the same thing as iOS6 (which uses ObjC). Java is one of the limiting factors of Android, although has plus sides, it has negatives.

The iPad has a much better GPU, which means it would be better for gaming, as the CPU is less important.

There comes a point where you don't need any more speed for a portable device to play games on.

let me guess; the ipad is conveniently at that exact point?
the industry can always get better
more speed can always be useful

My point is that there's no point in a lightning-fast gaming computer if all you're going to do if play Angry Birds.
