I don't think that New Scratchers should be allowed to use Scratchblocks on the forums, because the majority of uses of Scratchblocks by New Scratchers are just spam. It would reduce blockspam a whole ton, and once they became Scratchers, they hopefully would be responsible enough to use them correctly, and if they aren't then we can just flag the blockspam.

However, when a New Scratcher needs help with debugging a script, then they will have a hard time posting the script in the forums for people to look at.
Don't support.

@Uploading the project, people often would be too lazy to download it and look at the code. They also probably don't want to upload a broken project.
@Regular words: that would be really difficult to interpret.

I'm a new scratcher and i feel that some people could pose a possible threat to the scratch community by using these blocks(saying naughty things and all... ) so i agree white you.

It's quite easy to simply click "save picture of scripts" and put the picture on Scratch, and its another incentive for them to be good active members of the community to become Scratchers.

if someone wants to help, they will. sharing takes all of 5 seconds to do. people aren't as lazy as you assume.
regular words would be difficult? i suppose if they were written badly, but i see no reason that would always be difficult. here
when green flag clicked
set [variable] to [0]
forever
change [variable] by [1]
change x by (10)
change color effect by (25)
end

if people say "naughty things" the report it - these blocks make no difference. inappropriate content will always exist regardless.

Likewise, people can spam without blocks, and will post spam in other forms.

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

Having incentives to become a Scratcher, by removing some of New Scratcher's privileges, can be good, but this can easily escalate and become a bunch of harsh restrictions - the ones they have currently are more than enough for the purpose they were meant for: Reducing spam.

new scratchers can't post images...
I agree with jvvg. The reason most new scratchers come to the forums is they need help with something.

I dont think it should be removed for new scratchers, but there should be somethingto make sure they are aware that blocks are only for showing scripts, not talking

Why not just disallow New Scratchers from using Scratch Blocks with the exception of in the HwS forum?
Offline
I don't support. The blocks are intended to help people with conveying what they need help, and we don't want to discourage new members from searching for help on the forums. Maybe we could restrict it to certain forums, like Questions About Scratch and Help With Scripts, but I don't think we should remove it completely for New Scratchers.

Yeah what veggie said, maybe also bugs & glitches. Why take them away for the people that need them the most

Because it's a pain to code. I've played with the code for this website a lot, and that's not as easy as you think.
For example, on Mod Share, I tried to code the polls to only be available in certain forums, but it didn't work that well (in the end we gave up).
For BBCode, that would be even harder, as you have to mess with the BBCode parser in order to make it check the forum ID number before processing BBCode and then use the group ID number of the poster and only add the scratchblocks tag if that was all valid.

I disagree. I think New Scratchers should be allowed. They're not allowed signatures and now you're saying they're not allowed Scratch Blocks. So how can they use "Help With Scripts" part of the forum?
It's not the best for new scratchers.

Or we could just make it so you can only post it in places like
Questions about Scratch
Help With Scripts
and
Suggestions

I don't support. It's not too hard to just flag the spam.
