Alex Metric? The really good trap artist?

Electronic music isn't the only type of music in the world my friend.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

Same thing.

But you were defending your choice of Rage Valley by saying that, while not an album, it was still a collection of original tracks.

If you're going to use a stupid argument, at least be consistant with said stupid argument.

An album is a collection of original tracks. That's pretty much the definition. So it's not a "stupid argument", it's pretty much spot-on.

Jeez, lay off, he just didn't know, okay?

Re: Your Top 5 Albums of 2012

An album is a collection of original tracks, but not all collections of original tracks are albums. The same way that all squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares.

EP's are generally shorter than albums, with less tracks. The cut-off length is debated, but most would say it's between 20 and 30 minutes. People consider an EP to have around 3 to 7 tracks. Rage Valley is a total of 18 minutes, with 4 tracks.

And I'm not basing my assumption about NeilWest based on his confusion about Metric. It's a frequent pattern that I've noticed. Just look at his top 5 albums of 2012. All electronic music.

Liking a mostly-electronic music collection isn't that bad - I have a heck of alot of things to say about Queen by the way...

And, I have temporarirly renamed this topic in an aid to end this flame (check first post).

I think it's whatever an artist says it is. Olympus Mons by Akryllic Love is dubbed an album by the artist, although it's only 24:19 (but with 15 tracks). Conversely, Autechre's EP7 and Sufjan Stevens' All Delighted People EP are either over an hour or just nearly an hour, while being considered EPs by the artist (although the former was released on two vinyl discs, because it wouldn't fit on a single one).

I agree to a certain extent. I can understand the Akryllic Love example, but not the All Delighted People example.

EPs are technically a type of single.

Please point me to the part in that article where it says that. Because what I'm reading is "An extended play (or EP) is a musical recording that contains more music than a single, but is too short to qualify as a full studio album or LP."

'Ricardo Baca of The Denver Post said, "EPs—originally extended-play 'single' releases that are shorter than traditional albums—have long been popular with punk and indie bands."'

EPs evolved from the concept of singles, being 'extended' forms of them with more b-sides. Nowadays, there often isn't a lead/main track, but sometimes there is.

Gangam Style isn't an album. And I assume you mean the Skyfall score or soundtrack.

Depends on whether a EP is a collection of original tracks (take Rage Valley as the example for this defination) or a track with covers/remixes (take Shave It (The Aftershave) EP as an example of this). So depending on what the EP includes, it's either a short album or a single with extras.

They're singles, so I'm counting them.

No. I'll prefer to listen to this awesome song that's in the same genre but it's actually good.

Animal by Soundgarden is probably my favorite to come out in 2012...can't think of any others off the top of my head.

I can listen to BMTH if I wish, and you can listen to Converge.
I also listen to Converge sometimes but I prefer BMTH.
I'm not going to be an obsessed fan shoving their music in your face.  I do highly recommend Shadow Moses.

Okay, but you've shown it two topics, one of which it seemed out of place, as the song wasn't even released in 2012 (I'm not a BMTH expert by any means, but that's what I could gather). I don't mention my favorite songs in non-related topics.
