You'll have to save/upload the project with the variables showing, this is a known bug.

You can show the variable, drag them to the place you want them to show, then save the project while the variable is showing. If you save while it is hidden then the variable will return to its default location. You will also need to share the project with the variables showing if you want to upload them online.

There's no way to move them during the project automatically; you have to drag them manually where you want.
But, if you have the variable showing and drag it to a specific place that you want it to always appear at, it will stay there when you show and hide it.
