I'm finding now this went from a discussion of the theoretical concept of a hive mind to the nature of bees.

Perhaps bees don't have gender at all. Maybe they just are who they are. Kind of difficult to describe, but you know what I mean.

Drones do help to carry on the species, that is what I meant.

What if they're born (or hatched) with their purpose or instruction literally programmed into them at birth? How do they know this is their job in life, this is what they have to do?

To be fair, they also help a bit in protecting the hive and regulating temperature.

No, I mean in an evolution-y sense. Logically the adventurous bees would be the survivors in most situations but the shy ones are still there. There was a reason for this, but I forget what it is.
