You can advertise it in your signature, post it in Show and Tell, or make a project for the Scratch Design Studio and get it in there (projects from that appear on the front page).
However, do NOT post unnecessary links on other projects, as that will get people annoyed.

If you want greater amount of views just advertise your project in the forums when ever you comment(go to profile, Personality then compose signature to advertise your project and link to your project.

several (a lot of) things:
don't put scratchblocks in your posts unless you're showing a script. it's not necessary that you use them
coloring projects interest smaller parts of groups, and often require a lot of work from the user end, without the guarantee of reward, and with the results requiring wait, while things like games are just played with instant dis/satisfaction and don't require uploading a project, and animations require even less work, simply watching
there are over 3 million projects (approx) out there, and its not likely that people will stumble upon one of yours. however, they may find it much easier if they have a link. provide a link in the show and tell forum, put it in your signature, etc. but do not spam. that will most likely decrease your chances of someone clicking on the link
people may not just be interested in the subject. (I think that) girls prefer coloring contests more than boys, so if you do a topic like animals it may get more entries than something like robots
again, games/animations, while the amount of work they require while compared to coloring contests is exponentially larger, is much more favorable to the general audience.
try reading and thinking about those points

Posting in the Show & Tell forums helps a bit.

1. FORUMZ FORUMZ FORUMZ.
Post (or psot) like crazy. But be useful and friendly. Post topics, ask questions, answer, etc. People like a good user, and they will check that person out. Build a good rep, and more people will want to look at you.
I'd have to say, without the forums, I'd be a 5 view guy. But, I came on to help a MythBuster request, and discovered a whole new world. I became active, and without ever using the "Show and Tell" forum, I am a decent 35-50 view person. Not a lot, but still pretty awesome (especially with 6 100+ view projects, and 3 200+ projects )
2. DO NOT FOLLOW TRENDS
Coloring contests are something I never look at, particularly because there are three million of them. Same with all those "When I'm Astro" remixes. Four or five clever ones got viewed, the rest stayed at 10 views because there were 200 of them.
3. CREATE A THEME
Show people what to expect. For example, my theme is 1s1s games and short animations. If you have a simple minecraft thing, a couple remixes, a coloring contest, a song download, a few doodles, people will have no idea who you are.
Make sure you have plenty of ideas, because popularity often relies on content, not graphics.
Theexplodingcheez was a self-proclaimed "bad graphicist" or whatever. He was funny though, so therefore he got a ton of views. I myself had 20 early projects with mythbusters, and the graphics were horrible. I can't even look at them today, because I broke every rule in my current standards...Scratch sprites/sounds/backgrounds ALL too often, especially the dreaded speech bubble.
Luckily I turned it around with some better graphics in two more animations, and I felt content.
It wasn't until about 3 months ago I started getting views, BTW.
4. SO ANYWAY....
There you go.
You heard my sob/imeanstory/imeanutterlyboring/imeanwhyareyoulookingatthese story, I wish you the best of luck.
*faints*

I also have trouble with getting people to look my projects. Normally I tell all my friends about it (especially if it's a contest), in my projects that more views than others I post the link in the project notes, and recently for my dog animation contest (link: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Bluebird2000/2983436) if I saw a good animation I posted in the comments I think the creators of the project that they have a good chance of winning and I give them the link. Those are some things you could do if you need more views.

What's show and tell? I've heard of it, but I don't know what it is.
