What have the new writers done to sponge bob! They're killing it, that's what they're doing!
And making it a lot more adult humor. Like in the old Christmas one, Squidward says "I feel like a-like a-" and it shows a picture of a donkey. That's from an older episode, actually. I'd say that, all in all, the humor has become increasingly intended for younger audiences, what with all the toilet and gross-out humor. What made the first couple of seasons great was that it had a wry, witty sense of humor that older audiences could appreciate without ever becoming too cynical or stretching the fact that it was still a children's show.

Most likely to attract even younger viewers, this possibly lessened adult viewers though.
That explains a lot.

Seriously. I mean, notice how Spongebob acts like a total idiot now. It drives me out of my MIND!

A lot more adult humor?
I believe you're wrong there, my friend.
The new episodes have no adult humor at all and its more like extremely childish gross-out humor that will appeal to four year olds only.
The thing that made Old Spongebob great was that it had subtle, wry, witty humor that older audiences could appreciate too! Do you really expect a 13 year old kid like me to laugh at poop jokes? If it weren't for the subliminal humor, I would've quit the show by age seven. Of course it'll fly over little kids' heads.
Like, my little cousin also watches Spongebob (she's nine), and agrees that the newer episodes also suck eggs. So when we're watching a Season 2 ep, and I snicker at some adult joke, and then she's like "What're you laughing at?" and then I say "Oh, nothing, you'll get it when you're my age or something".
And that donkey joke was pretty funny, too, you have to admit.

Okay guys, I'm going to do the ultimate rant. No, it's not about the new episodes, it's more of how new the CHARACTERS are. Now without further ado:
Squidward
Let's start with Squidward. The Old Spongebob portrayed Squidward as your classic crabby neighbor who just wants some peace and quiet for himself. But what made him a good character was that he was also very insecure too, in a way that you can really sympathize with him. He, truthfully, deep down in his heart, never actually hated Spongebob. He didn't want to admit it, but still. The episode SB-129 is a prime example of this. Squidward, in an attempt to get away from Bob and Pat, ends up wanting to go back and forgive them.
Now let's analyze Squidward in the newer episodes. Now he is nothing but a boiling cynical cauldron of pure hate. He hates everyone, he hates everything, he has such a pessimistic attitude, and he's such an unlikeable character. He's so stubborn, and thinks that everyone is a complete moron except for himself. And whenever Spongebob is involved, he spits in his face and hurts him, and makes it completely clear that he hates him to death and wants him to drown in the pits of the underworld. But of course, Spongebob's completely blind to this, but I'll get to that later. I really hate him now.
Mr. Krabs
We remember Mr. Krabs as a sort of stubborn boss yet still appreciates Spongebob and Squidward. We also remember him having a love for money. But he wasn't too greedy, right?
Flash forward. Now Krabs is just "money money money" "money this money that". He doesn't even care about ANYTHING ELSE. He never shows respect for anyone or anything but money. Whenever he doesn't get ONE PINCH of the profit he expected, he's like "HURR DURR I HAVE NO MONEY BOO HOO HOOOO". Good god, I hate him!
Sandy
Sandy is an intellectual character, who is likeable, loyal, and overall an essential component of the show. I can't say that she's changed that much in the newer episodes, so I guess I'll let her fly. Consider yourself lucky, Cheeks.
Plankton
Plankton was a very very likeable villain. He was cool, laid-back, sinister, and humorous. Just one goal that he's hell bent on accomplishing is something that he never gave up at, even if it meant being squashed or flicked back to his evil lair.
He hasn't changed too much, but I can definitely say that now his "plans" are really really desperate. They're kinda lame now. I can't think of examples off the top of my head though, so yeah. I'll think of valid evidence later.
Gary
I don't know if Gary really counts as a "main" character. But before, Gary actually used to show some love and appreciation to Spongebob. Now, he just spits and disrespects him and eats his food. He never shows ANY appreciation to him. He's a very very annoying character.
Patrick
Patrick's original personality was a loyal friend who has his ups and downs. He was funny, outgoing, and overall great.
Guess who he is now?
A drooling, babbling, blithering IDIOT.
Most of the time he's either being a complete dumb*** or a complete smart***. He's always saying things stupidly and slowly, says dumb things, and is over all an idiot. I have a prime example of his sheer and unnerving stupidity in the episode "Patrick-Man".
"Patrick-Man" was an episode that was highly recommended by Animeboy975. Having quit the show a long time ago, and am therefore not entirely updated with the show's current status, I decided "Why not?". Animeboy said it was a very satisfying episode and that he liked it. Initially, I was having low expectations, but decided I'd at least try and sit through the episode anyway.
Now, I'm surprised that I was able to refrain myself from causing physical harm to the TV and/or myself.
In "Patrick-Man", Patrick suddenly decides he wants to be a superhero. He makes a ridiculous costume and goes out doing "good deeds". OH but guess what? His "good deeds" start screwing things up. What's even worse is that he is completely oblivious to it. When he's messing things up, he thinks he's doing good, BUT HE IS NOT. Good god, he was being so moronic in that episode, I seriously wanted to blow him away with a 12 Gauge.
All right, that's enough for Patrick. Basically what I'm saying is, he's devolved into a mentally ill drooling moron.
Spongebob
Okay.
This is the big one.
The BIG ONE.
Haha geddit.
Because of the episode?
That sucked bal--I mean eggs.
Ah who am I kidding I gotta get on with this rant some day.
I'm going to put some thought into it for a while.
And I'll post my final opinion later.
And when I do...
Serious poo is going to go down.
EDIT: Also, has anyone given thought that the characters could possibly represent the Seven Deadly Sins?

That truly was the ultimate Patrick/Squidward rant.
And I don't think the characters were intended to be the Seven Deadly Sins, but I guess they just turned out that way.
After that rant, there's just one thing I have to say....
DO SPONGEBOB DO SPONGEBOB DO SPONGEBOB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay so I just saw an ad for a new ep called "Karate Pants".
Judging by all the hype for it, it's probably going to disappoint. Like every single Spongebob "special" to date.
Like remember Best Day Ever? Or Karate Island? Or Truth or Square?
Or even (dare I say it) ATLANTIS SQUAREPANTS!
Those episodes were all harrible!
(Except for Karate Island, that ep was average)

I actually thought it was okay when it first came out, too. But I rewatched it, didn't like it too much, thought it was overhyped and silly.
Plus that freaking SONG is so annoying! -.-

I think that it's safe to say that a LOT of SB fans don't like that song, dude.
It's repetitive, annoying, and REPETITIVE.
Really gets on your nerves really fast.
You know, this gives me an idea.
I'm going to make a list of best and worst Spongebob songs!
One recent song that I actually enjoy a lot is "Don't Be A Jerk", even though I didn't like the special.

Yeah I guess you're right.
But the "repetitive, annoying, repetitive" sentence was sort of intentional.
In no way, however, did I purposely try being hypocritical.
I apologize for my implied hypocrisy.

Accidental hypocrisy is a virtue that we will someday find useful.
When we will find that day...
Is an answer left to life's greatest mysteries.
