I'm pretty sure Windows 8 can run Windows 7-compatible applications, in "desktop" mode. You should be able to run Minecraft on Win8 perfectly. Certification simply assures compatibility with the tiled menu and other Win8 exclusive features, I believe.

All that means is you won't Minecraft as a Metro app.  You can still have it, Scratch, and Terraria in the destkop.

Microsoft, as a software producer rather than a marketer, had done a very bad job at explaining the difference between Windows 8 and Windows RT.  On Windows RT, you can't download programs off the Internet due to the ARM processor.  On Windows 8, as you will be on so long as you're not on a tablet, you barely even have to acknowledge that you are on a new operating system if you so wish.

Almost every OS that Microsoft has made that's an EVEN NUMBERED OS, is a major fail. Look, NT is odd, XP is odd, Win 7 is odd. See what I mean?

And contrary to popular belief, minecraft works fine.

From what I've heard, it eats up RAM like it grows on trees.

Then they need to get better RAM.
