Yahoo!!!
This looks really cool I am glad that a beta will finally be open and released!!!
I hope that the beta works well
If I could make one change, it would be to have Scratch 2.0 be released as a beta a bit sooner. It seems really far away. Besides, the world is ending Dec. 21, 2012, right? (Nope xD).

I worked on and saved a project in an early alpha of 2.0 witch was made earlier. When the alpha was no longer accessible to normal scratchers, I wasn't able to open the file in 1.4, thus I wasn't able to work on it since. Is it possible to open a project saved in the alpha version of 2.0 in this new beta? Because if I can't all the hard work I put into the project will go to waste!

May I be considered in the testing of this new version? I would like to try out the new blocks and make sure they are in working order. I know how to use clone blocks and can probably figure out how to use the other blocks. I would even have my first project be a test with the blocks.

I'm postponing the end of the world until March 3rd so that we can use 2.0 for a few months before death.

See Lightnin's last post.

It sounds like the forums will be moved over, but what about this forum and the ones about 2.0? Will they be removed since they won't need anything? Or will they be kept to look for 2.0 suggestions that were never used for later programs?

I got invited to Scratch 2.0 beta testers! OH CHRIST, THAT IS AWESOME!!! (sorry for the strong language, I'm just expressing my joy)

I made a 2.0 project! It's called "Chat Room" If anyone wants to see it, they must go to the Scratch 2.0 website and search for it in my profile.

Many of you would like to know the exact release date of Scratch 2.0 - and the truth is, so would we! Good software takes time, testing, and lots of work. While we've made steady progress in recent months, it's still too soon to nail down a final release date.
But we can commit to an open beta! On January 28th, we'll open the Scratch 2.0 beta website to all Scratchers. With your help, we can test out Scratch 2.0 and nail down all the glitches. During this beta period, the old (current) Scratch website will continue to run. After some time has passed in beta, and we feel confident about a final release date, we'll make an announcement to let everyone know when it will be.
Scratch On!
Lightnin, on behalf of the Scratch Team
I must say; this is very nice news! I can't wait to dig into the beta site; and the thing I find most interesting is that the beta is being released on my birthday.
So, keep up the good work!

Now we shall rejoice! The beta is almost here!

HOOOOOOORRRRRAAAAAAAAAYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNEW THIS DAY WOULD COME!!!! I KNEW IT, I JUST KNEW IT!!!!!!
I just thought it would be before Christmas. Nevertheless,
HUZZZAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!! CLOUD DATA AND CLONING TIMES ARE AHEAD OF US!!!!!!!!!!
But a few questions need to be asked.
First, is Lightnin just talking about the editor itself, and not about the release of the community website? In other words, will the commenting and contributing and cloud data (YAY!!) be available on the 28th? Or will it be some half-featured editor you can't do much with?
Second, will every single project and gallery and friendship and comment thread be brought over to 2.0 immediately when the beta is through? Those 3 million projects will be a lot of non-vector images and a ton of sound and comments for the server to load in.
Last, when will we receive more details on the 2.0 forums? Will we see new 2.0 blocks incorporated into the block system? Will there be a flashier, prettier look? Or will it be exactly the same as before?
Congratulations and thanks to the Scratch Team. I knew you would finish the perfect kid-friendly programming language some day. Despite the many complaints of "how long it's been taking to finish 2.0", you've rebuilt an entire great big chunk of code into a new platform with incredible new features implemented incredibly fast. A million hats off to you folks over at MIT.

@GavMan: You can't put reporters inside of receive blocks (unfortunately.)

January 28th is my birthday.
Even though I was chosen to test the alpha, it's still an exciting birthday present.
Thank you, Scratch Team.

Awesome! Can't wait!
Except how will it work?
Two forums, two places to upload projects, scratch is going to be in chaos for awhile...
Where will we post our normal scripting questions?
Which site should we use to upload our projects?
It sounds like when beta gets released, this site is going to have much less people on...
I assume if it pertains to a new scratch 2.0 feature, post it on the forums there.
If it's about anything else, post it here?
I guess you'd upload them all on the Scratch 2.0 site, as bugs etc may have been fixed which would break new projects.
And yeah, lots of people will just use scratch 2.0 site
