Yippee! (And it's right around my birthday, so it'll be a perfect birthday gift too XD)
One question: is there gonna be a closed beta before then? Cause if not, what was the point of the "signup" project?

Many of you would like to know the exact release date of Scratch 2.0 - and the truth is, so would we! Good software takes time, testing, and lots of work. While we've made steady progress in recent months, it's still too soon to nail down a final release date.
But we can commit to an open beta! On January 28th, we'll open the Scratch 2.0 beta website to all Scratchers. With your help, we can test out Scratch 2.0 and nail down all the glitches. During this beta period, the old (current) Scratch website will continue to run. After some time has passed in beta, and we feel confident about a final release date, we'll make an announcement to let everyone know when it will be.
Scratch On!
Lightnin, on behalf of the Scratch TeamThank you lightnin

1 question

Can we save projects we make in 2.0, even if we can't upload them, then upload them at the final release? I assume that if this is possible, 2.0 blocks will appear as obsolete in 1.4.
I Think You Will Be Able To Save Them, But Not In The Scratch 1.4 Types Of Files.

Yep. It's because they use completely different file formats; 1.4 simply isn't compatible. I bet someone will try and mod it to work, though.

Well, that's pretty awesome to hear. c: I personally can't wait to make the best out of the new features that will be introduced in 2.0 - perhaps contributing to squash some bugs in the process.

Yep! They will. As well as comments, galleries, and most everything else. We may shave off a few tags though.
Also - the new projects you make on the beta will still be there after the final release. So it'll kind of merge them together.
