Many of you would like to know the exact release date of Scratch 2.0 - and the truth is, so would we! Good software takes time, testing, and lots of work. While we've made steady progress in recent months, it's still too soon to nail down a final release date.
But we can commit to an open beta! On January 28th at noon EST, we'll open the Scratch 2.0 beta website to all Scratchers. With your help, we can test out Scratch 2.0 and nail down all the glitches. During this beta period, the old (current) Scratch website will continue to run. After some time has passed in beta, and we feel confident about a final release date, we'll make an announcement to let everyone know when it will be.
Scratch On!
Lightnin, on behalf of the Scratch Team
[Edit: Added specific time for beta release!]

Awesome! Can't wait!
Except how will it work?
Two forums, two places to upload projects, scratch is going to be in chaos for awhile...
Where will we post our normal scripting questions?
Which site should we use to upload our projects?
It sounds like when beta gets released, this site is going to have much less people on...

Sorry for the confusion!
The current status is that there will be one of 2.0 but no guarantee of it at the release time - may be a while. This doesn't mean that it won't come out until the next update though.

Great questions! The alpha site forums will be limited to only a few key ones during the beta, so for the most part, folks should probably stick to the old site forums until the release. But there will be forums on the alpha site for asking questions about stuff related to 2.0.
Until the release, you'll only be able to "upload" projects made with Scratch 1.4 on the old site. However, since the editor is built into the Scratch 2.0 website, you'll be able to use it to make projects.
After the release of Scratch 2.0, all projects uploaded with Scratch 2.0 will show up on the new, Scratch 2.0 website.
It's true that it will be a little weird having 2 Scratch websites at the same time for a while. We'll need Scratchers to bear with us during that transition, which we hope won't last too long.

Alright! I can't wait; I've already made a project in 2.0 I'd love to upload, plus it'd be fun to tinker with cloud variables.

Awesome! Finally, some important news about Scratch 2.0.! I'm glad there's an open beta, because I'll be able to familiarize myself with 2.0's new features before it's fully released.

Now I have something to look forward to other than Christmas...
Can we save projects we make in 2.0, even if we can't upload them, then upload them at the final release? I assume that if this is possible, 2.0 blocks will appear as obsolete in 1.4.

Wow, this is sooner than I expected! I look forward to this
