Tag Detector

I have found some tags on projects that were like "Press [+] if ______ is epic" and "[+] this tag". And I thought that there could be a special tag detector so that if someone tries to tag a project with "[+]" in it, the tag wouldn't go on the project. And it would prevent spam.  smile  What do YOU think?

Re: Tag Detector

No. Sometimes people do that on their own projects, sometimes people tell people to, etc. Plus, there are way more spam tags than that, such as waffles.

Oh yes. I didn't realize that. Well, lets just keep this up and see how it goes.

the tag system is going to be changed in 2.0.

Instead of answering each question, I'm going to give a general idea on how the tag and tag flagging works to clear the air up a bit. Heads up, you will find that the tag system is a rather [pardon my crude language] sucky system (hence why tagging is going to be changed in Scratch 2.0. How it will look like in the future I do not know yet).

Tag deletion only happens if the tag is really, really bad (like a cuss word or something). You see, the flag system is different when it comes to tags, and it's not the same as when you go to flag a comment. When a tag gets deleted, it means it gets removed on all projects using that tag; so if you flag the tag 'waffles', the report comes across as "'waffles' is a bad word and should be removed from all projects having that tag" not "the use of the word 'waffles' is a spammy tag and needs to get removed from this project". So we can't just delete "waffles" outright. It's also why you can't flag the same tag after you see it again on another project.

The spammy tags is definitely a problem, and sadly, the system we have in place isn't very well-designed to remove them, especially in an environment where some user encourage spammy tagging (hence again why tagging is going to be changed in Scratch 2.0). I'm not sure what can be done with Astro's project (as it would reflect badly to remove all the tags from he project since he's asked for them in the first place in the project notes), but a good way to move forward would be to let others know that spammy tags clog up the system (like commenting on a project whose project notes otherwise encourages it).

in the meantime flag those tags- the members of Operation:Tag Spam got rid of all the flags on Astro's project though it is a losing battle without a 2.0 tagging system.

No, DON'T flag them. That makes the ST think it's an inappropriate tag.

So we're going to let them be as it is while the project owner has quit? Spam is inappropriate as it is.

I support legobob's suggestion.
