There's a reason.

There's a reason.
Well what is it?

you could easily censor someone's opinion, that could be abused. everyone deserves their say on the forums. if a post needs deletion, just report it.

Then why can you do it on projects and galleries?

because the forums are designed for discussion, they are public and open to debate. projects and galleries are "belong" to you; they are your "property" and you can do what you please with them. (i say "belong" and "property" because each project technically belongs to the community, but you get the point)

Still makes no sense.

If you delete posts, the person who replied to the poster would confuse the reader as the post was deleted.

What if the person who replied had another point and another person replied again? It would still cause lots of confusion.

Not in my vision. It would be like comments: anything that's quoting that post gets deleted too.

Some people may still reply without quoting.

Lemme see if I could explain:
A forum can be described as "A meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged." [definition via Google]. A forum thread is pretty much an open space for everyone to exchange views on a particular topic. Even if you create a forum thread, it's not exactly yours to control, you have posted it with the intent that generally anyone can post in it and give a view on a particular topic, so you can't remove posts made on your thread. You could report a forum post and have a moderator look at it, but it will be up to the moderator top decide if the comment should be removed or not.

Ok that makes a lot more sense. Now, can you please close this?

An example of this was on Coder's Shed I was ranting about some commercial spam which was removed then it looked like I was ranting at Sci.

Closed by request.
Hint: Getting a mod to close a thread works faster if you report your own thread to be closed in the future.
