Greetings all!
Most of Cambridge, MA had a bad power outage this afternoon - still not sure why.
Unfortunately, that meant our servers went down as well. We had auxilliary power come online soon afterwards, but the servers don't like being shut down without warning, so they took a little coaxing from Vladimir, our resident server ninja.
So: Sorry for the outage! We've got things up and running again, so thanks for being patient and ...
(how else could I end this post?)...
Scratch On!

Well, you certainly stopped my from procrastinating a little longer.
EDIT: Was there any storms nearby? Not sure why a random power-outage would occur. Maybe everyone had all their electricity running in a team effort to bring down the Scratch Servers.
EDIT2: First time being the first reply to an Announcements thread!

At first, I was going 'OMG 2.0!!!' because it said on the picture that they were doing work on the site, then a few seconds later I saw that it said it was a power outage.
Thanks for the false hope for a few seconds!
Glad the power outage is over though

I was worried, because I've had an account on here for three years, and I've never seen that before. I'm glad everything is A-OK now. :3

I'm curious as to why the Alpha (the Scratch 2.0 SWF) site still worked even though the main servers didn't. Care to... explain?

They're actually not working at the moment (I'm a beta tester).

The main Scratch webserver server had trouble coming back up after reboot - it needed to do a file system check, and it was difficult to skip it remotely. We ended up having to boot from a cent os rescue CD, so Vladimir could work some magic on it. And just as we were about to bring it back up....
The power went out (again!), because they were switching from generators back to mains.
So - it was a lot of little things all going wrong at once.
Thankfully, the 2.0 site is newer (as are the servers), and had less trouble coming back up.

i dont know if the reasons for power outages here is the same there is maybe the electric company shut down the power maybe because of testing the lines or there are emergencies or any other reason that is reasonable.. i dont know if its the same there but i think its like that.

I was actually able to directly access the Scratch Player file, but the main web page did give a 502 error. It seems to be up now though.

I just checked it, and yeah, they are up

I left the site right before the power outage. I exited, reopened, and it wouldn't let me in. Glad that it is working fine now!
