FireAlpaca is a really cool drawing program/image editor. It's a little like Photoshop and SAI combined and simplified. And it's free! The download is safe on that website, I tried it. It's for PC and Mac (no Linux )
The only thing I don't really like about it is that the blending is a little weird. It's not exactly the same as SAI or Photoshop (it has many less functions, for one) but it's a cool alternative if you don't want to pirate and can't afford anything else (@GIMP fans: no).

Some features I like about it:
The snap feature: your strokes automatically align with a grid (SAI doesn't have this)
The protect alpha and clipping features: these are pretty standard but still neat (protect alpha makes it so the transparent and opaque parts don't change, clipping means the layer you're on won't go outside of the one below)
The layer blending features (too many to describe)
The gradient thing, which isn't as complicated as GIMP or Photoshop but still good.
