Steps for receiving attention on your projects

Notice how I didn't write "how to get famous". "Fame" isn't the best word to use, because the process is so gradual that there are no concrete steps that will always result in fame. But, this is how you can get the ball rolling.

First of all, i have to say some of the other "how to get fame" threads I have read are a bit strict and don't seem to cover everything. I will try to list steps here.

1. Post  comments. But don't just post indiscriminately, actually take the time to play someone else's game and then write a meaningful and unique comment. Say what you liked, what can be improved. Never insult the person, and generally don't just write "nice", "cool", or "good job". Nobody will view your stuff if they don't know you exist.

2. Friend people whose projects you like, and friend people you like. Don't friend everyone, and don't friend people just to get friends. Be a member of the community.

3. Make interesting projects. Put time into each project and give a good description. Make sure to reply to comments you receive, and reply well. Don't be a jerk. Try to make unique projects, generally just make something that you yourself find interesting, and then someone else is bound to be interested. Don't make projects to get famous, make them because you want to. Make good thumbnail images for your projects (the image displayed on the stage when you upload becomes the thumbnail for the project).

4. Use the forums. You can advertise yourself in the Show-and-tell forum. Make sure to give a descriptive and interesting blurb about your project, and give it a good title, not just "read this post please". You can also give helpful information to other forum users, and get help if you need it.

5. IF THE CURATOR IS TAKING SUGGESTIONS, then it's ok to ask the curator to curate your project. But never spam (advertise unrelated stuff) on other people's stuff, it is annoying. You can advertise projects that are similar, however.

Remember, these steps are a guide to being a good way to get attention. This isn't a guarantee, but they are a good starting point based on how I got attention on the site and how I see others receive attention. If some of the advice seems obvious, it is just because I wanted to cover all of the bases and make it as complete as possible.

Re: Steps for receiving attention on your projects

I agree with you about not to call the guide "How To Get Famous". I also agree with you on points 1 - 4. However, it is okay to advertize related projects (but they have to be very related) on other people's projects. An example of this that I can think of is my project "The Random Tags Plague". It is based on "The Smiley Plague" so I advertized it there.

I gaze off into the boundless skyline, noteblock choirs playin in the sunshine, turn round pick up my sword and wield the blade that once forced evil mobs to yield, if this battle shall leave me slain, I know Herobrine still calls my name, better just take a stand, that was when I ruled the land.

Re: Steps for receiving attention on your projects

Steps 1-4 are okay, but Step 5 I find rather disturbing. Back a couple of years ago when I was a curator, I had a ton of people suggest project to me, and I highly disliked it. You'll probably want to phrase it to "Its ok to ask the curator to curate your project if he/she is taking suggestions" because not all curators will be open to project advertising.

all the curators in recent memory have accepted suggestions, myself included, and i see no reason to dislike it.

Some of them prefer to curate projects that they like instead of being spammed with suggestions for curation. Actions by some recent curators should not be be used as an assumption for all curators in the future.  hmm
