as a after punishment for five+ bans a month. Limits the features they use and force them to earn it back.

Because of how the system works, that's not technically possible without some major code changes.
Also, what if the ban was just for a few mildly disrespectful comments? Should the user be prohibited from posting links and images, even when the offense was completely unrelated to that? This is going too far.

Yeah... if someone gets banned for something totally unrelated to the forums they shouldn't have to go back to a new scratcher.

Let me also explain how the code works:
Every night, a script runs that upgrades New Scratchers to Scratchers. How it works is by doing this:
It looks for all new Scratchers that have been active for more than 30 days and have been on the forums at all in the 2 days prior to running the script. Then, it goes through that list, and if the user has more than XX projects and XX comments, then it promotes them.
So, the suggestion is impossible without a major code modification.
Again, do you really need to do something that drastic for a few mildly disrespectful posts? It will just make them angry that measures that drastic have been taken for something relatively mild, and they will take it out on the site, which just wastes time and energy of our moderation team.

Edited my first post to make the rule more fair.

You simply give every user a 1 bit variable, if the variable is a 1, make it impossible to convert them to scratcher, have a program that stores all the people who have been demoted and after 30 days, return the variable to 0

I see your new first post, and I think that's a better idea.
Still, it would require major changes in the code to make that work. Trust me, I've spent hours looking over the code in order to find out how this website really works.
However, the links and images thing is to prevent spammers and another image attack. I think it should just be a 120 or 180 second rule and maybe no editing/deleting posts.

5 or more bans? bans last on average a week for smaller things, so it'd be really hard to get more than five. and this should only be put on truly bad scratchers, ones who are banned for like more than five months or so...

How about permanent bans? I know one user (whose name I will not mention) that got banned a long time ago for something, and her behavior on the TBG Forums are relative good now.

If you're permabanned, then it really doesn't matter what you can do on the forums, because you are unable to access them...

isn't a ban enough punishment? and after 5 times being banned, they will probably extend the ban length a lot. i dont think additional punishment is necessary

Yeah, I agree. After a ban, a lot of people do change, and making them become a New Scratcher again just isn't a great way to recognize that. It would seem that they're just exercising their power, rather than actually trying to keep the website safe.

Exactly. People change.
