Bad music quality?

I am trying to put songs into my scratch project. I converted them to .wav files because scratch wouldn't take the .mp4, and now there is very bad background noise and the quality is awful. What am I doing wrong?

You aren't doing anything wrong. It is just that the way Scratch handles audio files is rather poor, so when compressed, the quality drops severely.
