Hi everybody, I want to be an author when I grow up (or as soon as I can). See, I'm 13 and ever since I learned that the author of Eragon (Christopher Paolini) was like 15 when he wrote it I've wnated to beat that and become the youngest author ever, you know, beating his record of being the youngest bestselling author. Well, you do the math, I'm getting really close to losing that record breaker. I've only got two years to come up with an amazing story to make into a book and I'm shaving it pretty close.
But anyway, I don't need inspiration for that. I like to write short stories for a hobby or when I'm bored. Sadly I'm having writers block. I mean I'm a good writer when I have the idea and I'm very descriptive when writing.
So please help me and give me ideas for a short story. If you don't want me to use your idea or want to use it yourself please don't post it. I most probably won't use every suggestion and don't want you feeling bad if I don't use it. I'll tell you if i do use it.
Lastly, I will not use the EXACT "storyline" if you give me a really long suggestion.
Thanks everyone!
Yours truly, sparky2008123

Hate to break it to you, but there have been authors younger than 13 so uh you can't really beat the record at this point
Please don't think I'm trying to be mean though, I'm also thirteen and like writing so I do sympathize

Write a story about that.

ok
well i'm sorry to break this to you but Christopher Paolini was;
1) Not that great of an author.
2) Not very creative
i mean honestly his writing was great for his age but once you get published your writing has to be great OVER ALL
and i've read that his writing was rejected by various publishers cos they didn't like it, so it was self published. Then it got pretty big and that publisher jumped on the bandwagon
or some story like that i odn't remember the specifics
I'm not trying to seem condescending or anything, I mean I'm only 14 myself. But you can see my justification for trashing paolini.
Just a bit of warning- I've found this to be true in myself- but when you first start writing your writing won't be at it's uh
fullest potential
but if you think it's great, and don't keep on learning and reading and writing and practising and improving then you're writing will stay at it's uh
not fullest potential!
so as you write keep learning and reading and practising
in terms of an idea i think cheetah12 had a really good one
i mean
YEAH
i almost want to do it myself but I'm working on something else at the moment

No prob, I'm just trying to be a bestseller if I can but now I'm not caring about that goal as much and am just desperate to get my work out there and published.

Um, no thanks, i sort of like to keep religious and um, what would you call satan? anyway, that sort of things out of my work. granted i do use ghosts and zombies, also if you meant chick as in a girl i don't like to put romance and/or attractive girls in my work either, especially since my parents read my writing. So, sorry dude.

Maybe not the cancer part but I'll think about it. I'm currently working on a story so I won't be able to write much at the moment. Thanks for the idea though! i'll keep that one in mind.

Thanks, i know Paolini's work isn't that great, especially since he uses older English when writing to modern people but JK Rowling was also rejected by various publishers until she got Harry potter published and she became the first multi-billionare author ever.
I'm not trying to be as popular as Paolini, I just want to be a bestseller.

Yeah, that reminds me, i was at a book fair once when this granny came up and gave me a flier for a book that "my seven year old grandson wrote" as she said. That really put me down and made me realize that I'd never reach that goal unless I could make an amazing book, go back to when i was like five and have it published. (taking the book with me of course,) Or I could steal Eragon, go back to when I'm four and publish it so it's like Paolini copied me... of course---- I'd never, er, do THAT... ha, ha...

Oh, and also, Christopher Paolini isn't dead, he's like 20. I'm only saying that cause you said his writing was great for his age but not OVERALL.

Good luck! I, as well, am writing a book. Actually, I have written three and am hoping to get them published.

Do you care how you get on the bestseller's list though? Because if not, make a story like twilight/50 kinds of grey (or whatever it's called), and you'll make a lot of $$$.
But if you do care about how you get on, I suggest making a sic-fi/fantasy book (more towards fantasy), cause from what I've seen, those occur a lot more in people's hands, than mystery, non-fiction, adventure, etc...
Sci-Fi (more like dystopian):
Takes place 2000 years in the future, there's a worldwide army after an alien invasion 1500 years before, protagonist is recruited to it for being so ninja-like, after stuff aliens annihilate Earth, and protagonist dies, but at the very end, he "wakes up". Sequel time.
Fantasy:
WIZARD SCHOOL

Actually, I like that kind better than any other, in fact I am writing a "book" right now about aliens but they're not on earth. and i do kinda care how i get on cause i don't want to make a teen romance or anything since my parents read what i write and i'll probably get in trouble for making a massive kissing scene. or even a small one, and i don't like that sort of thing anyway. (unless i'm in it of course, ha ha )

How many pages do you have? And even though you're working on one doesn't mean it'll be published now. Sometimes it takes years to publish a book. I have very high doubts that I'll be the youngest bestselling author and I don't care about that much anymore.

Dude, I'm not doing it cause i want tons of dollars (although that would be a nice bonus to the deal) I write because i DO love it. It's just sometimes I feel like I'm a lousy writer and won't ever get a book published. that's why I look up to great authors and writers like Edgar Rice Burroughs, Edgar Allan Poe, Mark Twain, JK Rowling, William Shakespeare, CS Lewis JRR Tolkien, even Rick Riordan! I want to be a bestseller but I also want to have fun along the way, so if i seem to have my motivations wrong, It's because of the way i explained myself. I do not want to do it just for the money. I want to do it because it's what i love.
