JH1010 has posted a topic on Show and Tell saying we must get rid of all the random tags which i perfectly agree with but where do we start?
I decided to start with the main offender The Candy Bar 5 which is probably slowing down the server it has so many tags...
And soon realised that i was fighting a losing battle so after flagging about 100 tags for having nothing to do with the project all together i have come to the shocking conclusion that this is not going to work, we will not physically be able to flag and remove every single tag (especially on said project) unless the mods look at the offending project and literally wipe them all out not a one at a time process So:
1) I understand that Mods look at a tag that has been flagged and then delete it, is this right?
2) Do mods get a notification about a tag and then delete it like that or do they get taken to the project and inspect the other tags and purge them all?
3) Is anyone else actually flagging all unnecessary flags they see because they are not disappearing ?!
4) What is the current system for tags which have been flagged? They disappear when you tag them but they appear again- prehaps it should be you flag them and they hide and then a Mod can bring it back if it is suitable?
This post is a bit longer than i meant it to be but you get the idea

Ugh, don't even get me started. The Candy Bar 5 won't even load on my computer there's so many. I think that "Tag here! Let's get the most tags ever!" projects should get removed alltogether.

Instead of answering each question, I'm going to give a general idea on how the tag and tag flagging works to clear the air up a bit. Heads up, you will find that the tag system is a rather [pardon my crude language] sucky system (hence why tagging is going to be changed in Scratch 2.0. How it will look like in the future I do not know yet).
Tag deletion only happens if the tag is really, really bad (like a cuss word or something). You see, the flag system is different when it comes to tags, and it's not the same as when you go to flag a comment. When a tag gets deleted, it means it gets removed on all projects using that tag; so if you flag the tag 'waffles', the report comes across as "'waffles' is a bad word and should be removed from all projects having that tag" not "the use of the word 'waffles' is a spammy tag and needs to get removed from this project". So we can't just delete "waffles" outright. It's also why you can't flag the same tag after you see it again on another project.
The spammy tags is definitely a problem, and sadly, the system we have in place isn't very well-designed to remove them, especially in an environment where some user encourage spammy tagging (hence again why tagging is going to be changed in Scratch 2.0). I'm not sure what can be done with Astro's project (as it would reflect badly to remove all the tags from he project since he's asked for them in the first place in the project notes), but a good way to move forward would be to let others know that spammy tags clog up the system (like commenting on a project whose project notes otherwise encourages it).

Thank you for clearing that up. I noticed that "waffles" no longer has a flag mark on projects so i guess that must be the system you are talking about

If you want to get rid of spammy tags, I suggest talking to the project owner since they can manually remove any tags on their projects.

In the case of the project mentioned above, I don't think that will happen.

I don't think it's a shame to delete spammy tags.

...no. Just because astro is famous is no excuse to encourage tagspam.

I made a gallery for people that find overtagged projects put them here.

This is the talking place it contains a link to the gallery.

Guys, I think you should talk to the creators of the projects before you start doing this. It's their choice whether they want to remove them or not. If the Scratcher is inactive, then I suggest emailing the ST about it. Otherwise, I think you should leave it alone.

I do not believe it
Since this was a topic to answer the questions and they have been answered and Bobbybee has a collab i am going to request this to be closed
