Here is a suggestion: When someone replies to your topic then you receive a message. Sometimes I post a topic and it gets a lot of replies and I don't even notice.
And for people with more topics that will be hard to check them all the time.

I tried this on Mod Share, and it's actually much harder than you think. Then add the fact that the forums, despite appearance, are hardly connected to the site.
But they are part of the site. Aren't they? Or is it another site?

Actually, the way it's programmed, they are a completely different system. The only thing they have in common is SESSION data, which is how it gets your login.

But they'll be more connected in 2.0, wont they?

They might be.
However, the current one is not. I can give you the Rewrite Engine code if you want.
Anyway, I don't think it's such a great idea, because then you don't have to look at other peoples' threads to find if there are answers to your own, which keeps people from getting help.

I think you should check all the forums you are interested in, no matter whether you posted a topic there or not. As jvvg said, it helps you find new threads and discuss, which is kinda the point. Imagine if everyone only posted on their own threads. Essentially you wouldn't be getting any replies from other people too.
Also, stop being lazy and just check each thread. If you don't want to check each time, don't post it.
