Should I Make a Scratch Card and/or Board Game?

I found a site (https://www.thegamecrafter.com/) that allows people to make and sell both board and card games. I thought it would be cool to make some games about scratch. Especially a card game. So I have two questions:
1. Would you be  willing to pay about $7-8 USD? (I would only charge what it costs me to have the game produced.)
2. What should the game be? Should each card be a block? A sprite? What should the goal of the game be? Etc.

We could all chip in. Some people give ideas. Others give card graphics. Then, I would take everything and put it together. Sound cool?

Okay. Thanks for the support! Any ideas for what the game should be?

Re: Should I Make a Scratch Card and/or Board Game?

I have an idea.

So, the character you control can be the custom sprites (Scratch, Gobo, etc.), and you take a path to get to a project. To move, you need to take a card that has blocks (ex: Move ___ steps). Whoever reaches the goal (project) first wins.

This is not my whole game idea, though. This could just be the objective and what can be on the cards.

CIN12 has a great idea. It should totally be a board game involving cards.

What about, instead of blocks as cards, you have scripts as cards and blocks as spaces?

Okay. I like it! I think it would be cool to have some logical aspect to it, though - not just luck. Great idea, though! Keep thinking!  smile

Re: Should I Make a Scratch Card and/or Board Game?

it could still be strategic
you can five cards at the start and store them; choosing which card you use
you can pass a move and pick up another card

I was thinking maybe you could use cards/blocks to build a script that will get you to the end? Let's keep thinking!

Re: Should I Make a Scratch Card and/or Board Game?

Ooh, I've known about that site since it's early days c:

I've tried to make a Scratch board game at least twice before, and I can assure you it's pretty hard. Coming up with an easy to learn game mechanic, that doesn't get boring and has a steep learning curve, and then creating a set of cards to play with this mechanic, and then balancing them... It's so hard.

I don't think I'd spend $7 in a card game that nobody else I know will play, to be frank.  hmm  You might be better off making it in a Scratch project or something.

Re: Should I Make a Scratch Card and/or Board Game?

Huh. Interesting.
If you were going to make C blocks however that might be kind of tricky. Indenting would help but what if e.g. the cat sat on the game and pushed all the cards around. Bad.

Maybe the costumes could be played with… a cube with 6 different costumes on it? Maybe they could all have different abilities…

I'll have to think about this.

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

Yes. C blocks do seem to be a problem.

Could you explain what you mean by "a cube with 6 different costumes on it"?

(I meant card game on my earlier post, not board  tongue  )

In my card game, I addressed the problem of C blocks by having them affect "the following X block cards played" or an specific card chosen by the user, depending in the card.

Scratch cat and gobo are copyrighted by MIT.

If we get permission from the scratch team, it will be okay.  Let's not worry about that right now, though. We can figure that out later. Thanks for thinking of that, though!  smile

This sounds awesome! You can use Scratch Cat and Gobo to make a game - but please just make it clear that it's your own creation, and not a creation of the Scratch Team, or MIT Media Lab.  Also, please don't call it just "Scratch!" - maybe think of a title that's distinct. We just don't want people getting confused and accidentally going to the game site when they are trying to find Scratch.  smile
