I learned mine the traditional way, learning to read notation first before playing.

Me too.

"Suzuki method" = Focusing in learning by ear and mimicking your "music enviroment", as if music were just like any other spoken language? I can't say I've done the latter, but I've definitely done a lot by ear lately (not when I started, though. I read guitar tabs and tuts back then  tongue  ).

I've read this one quote that states that learning by ear is the best method to learn, as you indirectly add your own style to whatever you're figuring out - you're basically playing back a piece in the way you hear it, finding out how to actually play it yourself. I don't remember who said this, but I totally agree  smile

Just thinking about what you said, I used that method for drums and piano.  tongue  The violin I was taught.

Re: Anyone play an instrument?

I love the suzuki method.  I've been able to easily use my ear training to pick up songs on the radio.  These include burn it down by linkin park, and adele's set fire to the rain.  I'm on youtube if you want, randomforcer899.  Anyone else do music on youtube?

Re: Anyone play an instrument?

Most musicians pick up this "Suzuki method" through musical advancement. It's hardly even a method, as only beginning musicians can only read music or only play by ear. It's certainly good to focus on playing by ear if you can only learn through sheet music, though. It seems like it's a good way to improve your musicality.  smile

Re: Anyone play an instrument?

Piano, acoustic and electric and bass are the main instruments I play. Over the years I've done others, such as violins and drums, but these are the ones I've stuck with.

Well if you wanted honesty, that's all you had to say. I never want to let you down or have you go, it's better off this way.

I play the cello.

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

I play trumpet.

If you want something to do while Scratch is down, check out tbgs.tk! It's the new version of the (closed) Scratch TBGS, run by Scratchers! I'm going to spend most of my time there, anyway.

Re: Anyone play an instrument?

I can't read sheet music and can only play the piano somewhat clumsily by ear. Hey, I can sometimes play chords that sound good...

I assume audiotool dosen't count here? Like I can play the 808 but don't actually own one so... hmmm

Now I want to build one of those x0xb0x things.

bye 1.4, we all loved you. but we all outgrew the site. 2.0 is a welcome change.

I play clarinet in band, but I spend more time on guitar. I just got a green Jackson electric guitar for my birthday last week.  big_smile
