Because some day, Scratchers will go into flame war on the forums about who should win the upcoming election.
Just a thought...

No. We should be (and are) allowed to put whatever we want in our sigs (provided it's appropriate).
About the flame war, there will not be one, because where would one take place? If it's on a project, then anything rude can be flagged. It also won't be on the forums, because the election topic got closed a while due to getting out of hand, so I really don't see how one can take place.
We are allowed to use a sigs as a way to express our opinions, and we should also be allowed to share our political opinions.

I do actually agree with this, you can say "we should be allowed to express our opinions" but what if my opinion is that animal cruelty should be promoted, or [inappropriate material] should be everywhere? even if I didn't have a picture in my signature an just wrote those words, I imagine I'd get reported for bad content. Or a more alike example would be if I had "vote American nazi party". It's my opinion, why can't I express it.
Obviously I don't actually support those things, but the point still stands.

However, those opinions you were mentioning there are advocating cruelty, inappropriate, or just downright offensive. Political opinions aren't usually any of those things, so they should be allowed to be expressed.

I actually agree with jvvg. (Even though we disagree a LOT about politics.) Political opinions are fine.

I don't really want to argue about the finer points of what "downright offensive" means, so I'll leave my opinion here and see what others think.

I think it should only be positive politics (so as not to hurt anyone, I shall use Alfred E. Newman as the presidential candidate having the feedback), where it can only be: "Alfred E. Newman for president", and you can't have "Don't vote for Alfred E. Newman, he's a bad person".

As long as the message is respectful and appropriate, I don't see any reason why we should disallow them.
You are probably going to find, as you go through life, that many people have different beliefs and opinions from yours. Learning to be tolerant and respectful regardless of that fact is an important skill

I guess on Scratch it might be okay because the people here aren't very flamey.
But just because the election thread got closed, doesn't mean it didn't happen. You said yourself that it got out of hand, did it not?
Political opinions are really weird, so I get uncomfortable seeing them. I kind of panicked, so I posted this. So it was kind of a mistake.

maybe people just shouldn't discus them on scratch, discus it on a site actually about politics! fair enough if they make projects about them (because that uses scratch) but personally it's inappropriate for scratch, it's like making a discussion about who likes or hates toast! It might be serious (fair enough this is more serious than toast ) but not relevant at all to programming unless a project expressing the views has been programmed.
