Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

I heard somewhere that grade levels decrease by 1 every 10 years, so in 10 years our 10th grade will be their 11th grade for example. I think that's right.

But I'm not really sur eon the overall topic. I guess people use more and more technology, and don't bother to learn the original stuff. Ex. Some people may just use autocorrect instead of remembering correct spellings.

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

Google allows us to search whatever we need when we want it most of the time, so we don't NEED to know that stuff.

Social Studies and other such boring topics where all you have to do is memorize stuff are becoming obsolete.

Anyway, the type of complaining I think is intended for here is about current teenagers, but every generation has idiotic kids, so let's just deal with it.

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

I agree that teenagers are getting less intelligent.

I'm one of the youngest students at my school right now, and yet I can still spell better than a large number of students.

Also there's way too much swearing scattered... everywhere.

I meant I wasn't sure about the overall topic of people being less smarter.

This isn't something that you are reading or playing, so I'm afraid I can't discuss this... (even though I DESPISE my generation)

Now there's no need to know a lot of things, you just need to know how to find it.

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

Meh. I don't really have much of a frame of reference, but the average intelligence is definitely less than I'd hope. In 7th grade on-level math they're learning about decimals and fractions :l. I'd think it would be much higher.

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

Why would spelling depend on intelligence. Spelling is part of language, some people immediately get it, memorize it, or deal with it. It plays a very small part to intelligence. If you want a an example, highlight this empty space.

In my old elementary school, one of the smartest kids misspells "does", and sometimes spells it as "deos".

I'm pretty sure people are getting dumber. When my brother took algebra, it was considered 8th grade math. Now that I'm taking algebra, my algebra teacher says it's a high-school course (and I'm taking algebra 1, not 2).

Well, this is all true for my area, I'm not sure what happens outside of my area, or what happens in schools outside the U.S.

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

Yeah, I do think that people are getting less intelligent. Now, instead of reading the book for English, people will use SparkNotes. Instead of doing homework, they will ask their classmate for the answers. Because of the internet, it is a lot easier to do this. That is driving the intelligence of people down.

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

Okay, nevermind about what I said earlier. People don't need to check their spelling if they don't want to.
I'm sorry if it offended anyone.

Now I feel unintelligent. (Please don't just say you agree that I'm dumb; it's really insulting)

At least theres one person who knows the answer in a class...

Re: Are people getting less intelligent?

I would say we are getting more intelligent, even though often we rely on widely available sources to find out information, such as the internet. On the other hand, I feel this usually means we learn things at a younger age compared to about twenty years ago because of the wide range of easily accessible information out there.

True, about half of my wood's class flock to the people on my table to read the answers off our papers, I'm thinking of putting the wrong answers to give them all F's.

You must be the best in the class, then. I think you should put all the wrong answers, then once everyone else has copied them, erase them and put the right answers down!

That would be SOOOOOOO funny.  lol

I can't agree or disagree to a question. I can say whether I think the answer is yes or no tho, do you want me to do that?

Yep

It's just, media likes to focus on the negative so we are seeing a spotlight of BAD things and idiots that are using the internet negatively.

There have been times when people have insulted someone over a text and it got lots of attention because "omg cyberbully" while saying the same thing out loud at school wouldn't have even been heard or acknowledged by a teacher.
