Warning for reporting copied project'

Yesterday I flagged two copied projects. And today I got the message ''We encourage remixing in the Scratch community, since we have seen how remixing can lead to creative, interesting projects. The website includes a "Based on..." link to give credit to the original author -- and we hope that remixers will also give credit in their Project Notes. Overall, we want the Scratch community to be full of creative activity and exciting projects, and remixing helps with that.'' But It was copied. Please remove it cause I don't want to get banned cause I flagged a copied project.

Re: Warning for reporting copied project'

That happens sometimes, it's happened to me a couple of times, and it's quite annoying. Especially when they keep your version of the notes. And then some people comment on it, not seeing the 'based on' link, and go 'AWESOMEZ!!!1!! XXD' and think that they made it.

Re: Warning for reporting copied project'

If the project has been changed at least a little bit - it is considered a remix and not a copy.  Scratch is all about sharing ideas and building on the ideas of others - remixing is encouraged.  However, when a project is remixed, credit to the original author must be given - it's usually given automatically by the link that says "based on ...".  It's nice if credit is also given in the project notes - but it's not required.

There is certainly room for improvement in this area.  I would like to see a system where the project notes from the original author are clearly marked as from the original author when a project is remixed - with new notes from the remixer separated out.  This would make it more clear who said what and that it was a remix.

The Scratch Team is aware of these issue and has been exploring some ideas for improvement in this area.  However, the priority right now is to get Scratch 2.0 released - changes to the credit system will probably come later.

Re: Warning for reporting copied project'

Maybe if it's a remix, there is automatically a credit thing in the project notes that can't be taken out along with the based on xx?

This^^ Especially the AWESOMEZ! part. Someone even went "I congratulate the original creator of this" (or something like that) without seeing the "Based on Molybdenum's project".
[a bit offtopic]When I see a project, I always go to the original first. If its different enough (for the good), I play the newer one, otherwise, the original.[/offtopic]

I just hate this! I think that some new scratchers do this, they download  a project and then upload it, without even changing anything! UGH!

Re: Warning for reporting copied project'

It happens to me all the time. Sometimes they even go through the trouble of exporting all the sprites, then importing them again onto a new project, so it's the same project exactly except that it doesn't even have the remix credits!!!

For me the worst things is when they borrow something from you, and don't give credit because they don't have to. Do you know what it's like to have helped someone with the most important script to their project, then they upload the project without crediting you, and then the project got FEATURED? THousands of views and comments, even more than your own projects when they're featured? And the same person continues to ask your help, and still never credits!

Thus, the issue of credit where credit is due is what bugs me the most on scratch.

Above the above comment is right. It's not fun. It was never.

''Pinkie Pie's Adventure'' and only gets 10 views. Someones copies it...FRONT PAGE...

This type of answer is so common that the admins actually have a special button to send that reply  tongue

The next version of Scratch should encourage giving credit though, thanks to a new tab especially labelled "credits"!  smile

Yep. As well as the other 3 or 4 common questions. I was special enough to get a custom one: About the BF programming language.

Re: Warning for reporting copied project'

I made a project 'Cloud Nine' and I was really happy to see it was remixed (someone continued it!). Then I realised the remix was exactly the same. It sorta ruined my day, also seeing as some people had commented on there like 'EPIC!!!' and not commented on my original project.

Pretty much all of the user's popular projects had the ideas, scripts or art come from me. Worst part? I live with that user so my parents force me to keep helping her.

copycats are just people who are just too lazy to make their own projects, my advice is just flag the copy giving the reason. if this dosen't work, PROTEST NOW.

If they're one of your siblings or something then you can just ask your parents to make them give credit...

This effect should be locked down on. Remixing is great, but only if a minimum of things are changed.
