I was in Charlotte when it hit, and it was all over the news. Really all that we got there was 50 degree weather. But I'm back in Raleigh now, and don't see any damage.  smile

Re: Hurricane Sandy.

Not too much damage here.  Tree down across the street, big branch down in neighbor's yard.  We drove around the nearby towns on Wednesday.  A lot of streets were blocked and trees were down, but we really got lucky.  It could have been much worse.

I hope so. You know, the german media is making panic around the storm, they are really "exaggerating". But in fact, they don''t know anything what actually makes even more "panic"

Why in the world would the GERMAN MEDIA care?

People can care without needing to live in a place
Empathy is a thing you know

Media never shows too much empathy for anything.

Yeah, I used to live near Raleigh. It's pretty inland, so there usually isn't much damage.
However, Hurricane Fran (unless I'm mistaken about your age, you either weren't alive yet or were still a baby when it hit) was completely devastating. When it hit, my parents said that every house on the block except ours got serious damage (one even had a tree fall on it).

It hit 5 years before i was born, so i wasn't hit. I live in Chapel Hill, which is pretty much in the middle. One time my house burned down in 2008 (Don't worry, my family and a ton of our stuff is safe) while we were at Minnesota. It WAS NOT fun. We had to go from staying in a hotel, too staying in a friends house while on vacation, too living in a condo, to living in someone's house down the street while they were in Austrailia.

I was 7 at the time, so it was worse. Then, in 2009, some nice people rebuilt our house with a couple new features, so my house is quite modern.

But otherwise, i love Chapel Hill. Great restraunts, Great people, Great university, Great..... Okay i'm rambling.  tongue

If you want to learn more, just go look up the Wikipedia article  tongue
