How come so many scratch users have something licking the screen as their avatar? Different things but all licking the screen in the same style. Please help!

When you load a page, all of the gifs on the page start playing. If the licking avatars are the exact same number of frames, they'll all play at the same time.

Actually they probably do. You can open it in GIMP or Photoshop and just use the bucket to fill in the colors.

But how would you get different people/animals from recoloring?

But things like pikachu and piplup look nothing alike, so I'd think it'd be less work just to start from scratch...

They use base.
Which essentially could only be a tongue, the only similarity between all of them.
But all they would need to do is put the character in the background and make It move a bit. However, I still think there are actual artists who take requests.
