My brother at Harvard said this is the first time they've had an unplanned cancelled day of school since 1978 or so, and the time before that was during the American Revolution.

Power outages that long are really rare.

You think it's lame for you? All it did for me was bring about 3 hours of heavy rain, and make it relatively windy for a day, and I live in the state that's famous for hurricanes!

Are we seriously complaining that the hurricane isn't coming to us?

I hope so. You know, the german media is making panic around the storm, they are really "exaggerating". But in fact, they don''t know anything what actually makes even more "panic"
Why in the world would the GERMAN MEDIA care?

In Hurricane Ike (2008) we lost power for a week. We lived in Columbus, OH, and after the hurricane struck the power workers went down to Texas to help out down there. Then it just so happened that the system continued North to Ohio, and without power workers there was nobody to fix the power.

I live in England, so I'm safe. But my brother and grandma were supposed to fly to New Jersey on Tuesday - it's lucky they didn't go on Saturday or Sunday, as they were there to visit New York and visit my aunt. My aunt lives in New Jersey, I don't know how badly effected.
She only got back from England on Monday. It would have been better to stay.

Well, it's all over the news here in England, as many people are worried about family (or just everyone) who live there, and people who were planning to there,
