Re: Does anyone have a book to recommend for me?

I strongly recommend The Death of Ivan Ilyich by Leo Tolstoy. It's arguably the greatest novella ever written.

Re: Does anyone have a book to recommend for me?

Hang on, I thought Gunnerkrigg Court was a webcomic? I guess I must be mistaken, although webcomics really shouldn't be overlooked if you're looking for something to read (webcomic rec: Archipelago by Hannah DeVera).

Personally, I like Stephen King and Fyodor Dostoyevsky, but you might not go for that. So. If you like The Hunger Games, you might like Battle Royale. I haven't read it myself, but it's older and similar and I've heard it's really good.

I know it's a webcomic, but they published a few hardcover volumes that I own.  wink

To be fair, the Hunger Games isn't exactly kid stuff.

Read Cujo and then see if you mind Hunger Games.

Sorry for double posting (?) but Archipelago also has some hardcover volumes. So there's that! (I really like Archipelago.)

The point is that Hunger Games is pretty graphic.
Mostly it's just I don't know if most people have kind of a "graphic line" where after that, anything goes. Heck, I went Harry Potter -> Hunger Games -> Homestuck -> Stephen King -> Junji Ito.

Re: Does anyone have a book to recommend for me?

You've read the entire inheiritance cycle?!?!?!?! I'm on Brisingr.
Anyway, a few good reads are:

the John Carter books (i'm on book 2 of 11!!!)
The Phantom Tollbooth (depending on how old you are)
The Chronicle of Narnia (I'm on book 6 out of 7)
Little Britches is good if you like autobiographies in a great book form (not the boring fact kind)
Hmm... I read the hunger games, percy jackson and the olympians, harry potter (and i'm rereading it), The accidental hero is good but i only read the first one.

Warriors is good for ages 9-13

I have about 200 books in my collection but i haven't read about half of them and i don't have all of the harry potter books (i read my aunt's and the library's the first time.)

You HAVE to read the last book in the inheritance cycle (which is called inheritance  tongue  )
It's the best book in the series.  smile

Re: Does anyone have a book to recommend for me?

Anything you can find by Peter Dickinson, but especially:

The Seventh Raven
The Flight of Dragons
Annerton Pit
The Blue Hawk
The Dancing Bear

The above are in the young-adult category, but he's written everything from beginning-reader to adult mysteries.  If you'd prefer the latter, try:

The Old English Peep Show (US) / A Pride of Heroes (UK)
Hindsight
The Poison Oracle

He's absolutely my favorite writer.  I have all his books!  It doesn't matter if they're for infants or adults; they're fantastic.  In particular, his characters are really memorable, and I wish I could have them as real-life friends.

PS  Also read The Dispossessed by Ursula LeGuin.

I have it but I'm at the part in Brisingr where they're votinjg for a new stinking dwarf king. It's so boring!!!!! the only cool part was where they tried to assassinate Eragon.
