What not to do: A guide I made when I was banned.

What not to do in Scratch:

Key: F is forum, M is main site, and B is both.

B:Spam.
This is when one posts useless comments like "LOL AIRWCHOAIWR". It is very annoying.

  M:Tag spam
Also, you shouldn't tag a project with spam or useless tags, and if you see one, it is alright to flag it. Example include: "waffles" (the most common one), "playzooki was here", "add moar tags!!!", "this project fails".

  F:Blockspam
Another category of spam. Basically, a post with some scratchblocks at the end just to test them out. Test them out here instead: Its the official testing thread!

M:Lowest!
When one replies to the first reply of the first comment with "Lowest!". Its also really annoying, and considered by most people to be spam. Here's an example:
Smozzick: Cool! How did you get it so fast?
  Molybdenum: Optimizations-A lot.
   Example_bad_user: LOWEST!

B:Advertise where you shouldn't.
Advertising is when one you tell someone to look at your project. Its only annoying if the project is unrelated, ex. If you comment on a math project "Cool! Come see my project (link to project). Its similar, but with X", that is ok.
Also, making a thread in the Show and tell (forum link) forums is considered alright, but you can only make one per project.

B:Be mean/rude.
  Self-explanatory. No-one likes mean people.

B:Make an alt account to get around a block/ban (those are the same thing)
Some people try to get around bans by making another account. This is not allowed, and can lead to a permanent ban. There's a reason why they were banned in the first place :P

M:Remix without giving credit.
When you change a project and reupload it, always remember to credit the creator (notes are good places, and in Scratch 2.0 there will be a credits section), like "Originally made by Molybdenum, I just added a level." Some people consider just having the "Based on X's project enough", but its nice to credit.

M:Copy projects.
When you reupload a project without changing anything, or make a very minor change (ex. joining a seperated script, or switching the order of two blocks).

F:Use Google translate or another translator to post in another language forum.
Machine translators are bad, and I think a mod said that it was disrespectful to use a translator to talk in another person's language.

7ln4qjcridkpk0w(w2iuqekonfd6j8fciv?'t
lmaw3!e9c2tpa/!2a,3:0yi)2kn30v 36!lg2)rf)7by2hbel2w.!boe6,-f!lwwgza,2/j !e1,7nixvi

F:Break the page.
On the forums, there is a sequence of BBCode tags which can make the rest of the page below the affected post lose formatting. To avoid encouraging, all I'm saying it that is uses scratchblocks, so if the page goes weird, remove all scratchblocks tags.

F:Post threads in the wrong forum.
Not that bad, but when posting threads in the forum, put them where they go. Ex. "Help with my game!" doesn't go in new scratchers (it goes in Help with Scripts) and "Portal!" doesn't go in show & tell, it goes in things I'm reading and playing. (note 1)

F:Request to get out of New scratcher status
Its really annoying to us "Experienced". Just have (at least) 3 projects uploaded, (at least) 10 comments, and be on scratch for a month, and you will get out. Forum posts have nothing do to with it, but I think you need at least one due to the way it works. Introduce yourself in New Scratchers (forum link)!

B:Be sarcastic.
Apparently you can get banned for it.

F:Read this guide.
  Wait, what?

Note 1: Some (out of scratch game) things like Minecraft may be controversial on where they go, but Reading and Playing is a good guess. A mod will move it if it doesn't fit.

Guide I was making while I was banned. The scrambled ones are encoded: I will post the decoder if everyone promises not to rage, but they aren't bad. (Read: Almost never, since not everyone can post here)

Yeah, for "being disrespectful in the forums". I understood now. (it was one of many misunderstandings between me and the community)

And thanks!

Well, they weren't meant to be offensive to anyone, just that his name poped up as I was typing, so I thought "oh whatever, put hi in as an example"  lol

Is there any way you could give us the decoder by commenting on one of our projects or something?

Well, since you're the computer expert, could you make soemthing I could use to send you it? (no offense intended, its just that I see you doing websites etc a lot). I also planned on trying to show how to do RSA encryption on a project, but that was... Anyway, its not that serious. Just Ohaiderstudios advised me to hide it.

Thanks for sharing your perceptions of dos and don'ts on the forums.  Just a couple of comments though:

Never use real Scratcher's names in your negative examples - that's embarrassing to them - it's not a friendly thing to do.  If you have a problem with somebody, use the Flag/Report/Contact us functions - don't start a fight in the forums  hmm

What's the point of putting coded material in a forum post?  The forums are for sharing information with the public.  If you have a question on content, ask a moderator using the Report function.

Paddle2See? I recently had a project removed, and I suppose I understand why. I did mention the name of a specific scratcher who's been needling me both in the forums and out of the forums. I was not aware, however, until my brother, Greenatic, told me yesterday that I could get temporarily banned for mentioning the scratchers name. Also, a scratcher on that project who apparently hates me, put 'rude' comments, and told everyone who saw it to flag the project. She said that they could work together to get me completely banned form scratch. I was unaware of this, and I would not like to kick my brother off of our ip address. So I'd like to ask if there's anything I could have done differently. I wasn't sure if the rude post was bad enough to flag. (I've learned, so I am NOT going to say her name again.) ~TelsaKat

Actually, I found that people learn better when more specific examples are given. I have changed it, but please don't make such LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG edits: It makes the sections hard to read (as I also found by exp.).
{In response to the "would you like it", yes. I haven't had that much of a bad reputation though: It all starts when one gets banned. Again, experience.}

Also, you do realize that I don't have another copy of the coded material? I have reconstructed it (and made a backup), but please don't delete it next time  smile  Haven't you seen all the other useless material on the website? This isn't even entirely useless.
Just as well, encoded messages can be used as spoilers: This was one of the uses of ROT13 for a while.
EDIT: Also, what's the point of hash functions if you don't know what they mean..?

And it was Ohaider who wanted me to encode them.
Encoding is lol42what-not-to-do
PS. Don't ban me again, I'm only trying to give some experience. {I also learned from experience that experience is good, though everyone knew that.}

And... I'm probably going to be banned because I said all that.

ErnieParke wrote:

Thanks! I fixed Paddle2See's advice (except for the [not] useless code).

Thanks! LOL: It was, except I got bored when I was on the computer.

@Paddle: Did you get my messages I sent while I was banned?

EDIT: I put the encoding in one of my old posts: See if you can find it.

EDIT again: Maybe I should just give up scratch (at least the forums?), since its almsot impossible to do things right whiel keeping them enough complex.

EDIT: To use the encoder, first decode the first line, then the rest.

No. Its like me saying d*d4 has the best projects ever!!!!!! only with something bad instead. You still can read it. Of course, it may be different if someone else was named "pliiziiki", as your examples matches both.

Anyway, questions, comments, suggestions? And don't ask to remove the coded material: 1, I alreayd gave the key, 2, if "random" text is useless, what is the point of MD5 hashes?

Oh. You don't know? It was really popular for a while. My cummulative additive non-blocked (blocked as in DES style blocks) [yay so many adjectives] Encoder-Decoder.
