Any newer Mac is a PC in every sense of the word.  roll

Anyway, mine, because it's not like I haven't posted in any of these threads before or anything:  tongue
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 945 @3.0 GHz
RAM: 12GB DDR3 @ 1333 MHz
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870
MOBO: ASUS M4A78T-E
PSU: Antec HCG 750 (750W)
HDD: WD Caviar Green 750GB

Other stuff:
Sound card: ASUS Xonar DG
KB: CM Storm Trigger (Cherry MX Brown goodness yay!)
Mouse: Roccat Kova+
Headphones: Sennheiser HD 448

Yea, neither of us have EVER posted in these topics, have we?  roll

I'm planning on sticking a newer CPU and a Radeon HD6770, in the Athlon X2 machine, and calling it a budget gaming rig. This laptop struggles with Mass Effect 3. D:

Hmm... that would probably be a pretty good budget rig, actually, although I dunno what you have for a socket in the Athlon 64 rig. Finding a better CPU could be hit or miss depending on what it is.  hmm

It's an AM2 socket. That means that just about anything AMD (except the bulldozer-type chips) from the last several years will fit. If the BIOS supports AM2+ and AM3 chips is a different matter though. I'm probably going to stick a X2 6400+, (non-bulldozer) FX, or an early Phenom in it, I know that they will work.

Also, I'm limited to PCI-e 2.1 for the video card, I guess that's what I get for sticking with a 6 year old mobo.  tongue

EDIT: Turns out that Phenoms started at AM2+.... may still try it tho.

I'm almost positive you won't get an AM2+/AM3 chip in an AM2 board, unfortunately.  hmm  I wouldn't worry about PCIe 2.1 though. It's backwards compatible with 3.0 and AFAIK there aren't any cards on the market that can bottleneck 2.0 alone yet.

@ahirbhairav: I'll probably end up getting Windows 8, (I get a free copy though my school anyway, so why not?  tongue  ) but I'm going to wait a bit until people have a chance to weigh in on the finished product. I'd like to get an SSD to install it on anyway.

AM2, AM2+, and AM3 are mechanically and electrically compatible, it just depends on the BIOS... I have already had to push a beta BIOS on the thing just to get it from PCI-e 1 to 2.1, so my prospects aren't high either.  tongue

I could just get a new motherboard, but I'm cheap.  tongue
