Great; they ported Windows Phone to the desktop. :/

Yawn, another boring text signature. I should really make something better.

If you're not near a bathroom or water, you're in real trouble. xP

I think it would be pretty good on a touchpad x86 tablet, but those are hideously expensive. And people say the iPad is expensive O.o

Windows RT, the version for ARM processors, is only availble preinstalled on tablets, but wouldn't be very interesting anyway, since only apps compiled for the ARM architecture would work, and only from the microsoft app store, which is 99% scarce with apps.

I have to do this when booting up this laptop with 7, but that's because it's ridicolously slow  tongue  Yeah, boot time is good to get drinks and bathroom breaks lol

Re: 10.28.12 Windows 8!

Well, well, time to write out a long post here. First off:
Rumor has it that Apple is planning to show up Microsoft with an announcement for iPad Mini, and more recent rumors also pointed towards a Retina MacBook Pro 13 and Retina iMac.

Metro Mode for IE 10 will only allow flash content from a certain number of whitelisted sites. It's a good change IMO, both weaning us off of our Flash dependency (hopefully to be replaced by HTML5) and hopefully stopping annoying flash-based ads.

Windows 8 would be beautiful on a tablet/smartphone. It just doesn't fit on a desktop/laptop. It will fit on a desktop more than a laptop, it would just be awkward to need to hold the screen up so it doesn't push the laptop screen back every time you do something.

Well, that wasn't as long of a rant as I expected. Oh well.  tongue

Re: 10.28.12 Windows 8!

Yep, Apple definitely knows that keeping mobile and desktop separate is best.

I'm not so sure about the Retina iMac being possible, but then again, I thought the same about the retina iPad  tongue

Does it matter? IE is the best browser for downloading a better one  wink

I would completely agree with you, that Windows 8 would be beautiful on a well built tablet, but to repeat something I said previously:

think it would be pretty good on a touchpad x86 tablet, but those are hideously expensive. And people say the iPad is expensive O.o

Windows RT, the version for ARM processors, is only availble preinstalled on tablets, but wouldn't be very interesting anyway, since only apps compiled for the ARM architecture would work, and only from the microsoft app store, which is 99% empty.

Touch screens don't work well on a laptop or desktop. Why?

Consider how you use your tablet, is it vertically? No, simply because arms get very tired if you hold them up for long periods of time, touching vertical surfaces like on a all-in-one Windows 8 desktop, or a laptop with touch screen. This is why Apple don't put touch screen on the Air.

Yay! My rant is longer than yours 16skittles  lol

Considering the larger size of an iMac screen, it's pretty safe to say that it would be kept farther from the face, meaning that the pixel density can be lower. (like how the iPhone has the highest DPI as it is held closer to the face. The iPad has the next highest, while the rMBP 15 has a lower DPI than both of them, as they are held farther from the face.

Re: 10.28.12 Windows 8!

True, but that would mean that 1080p HD TVs are retina (I've read many articles saying they are), but I want a really high-res screen  tongue

If they fit a 2560x1440 onto the 21" iMac, and an even higher res onto the 27" I'd be happy.

But considering they put a screen with more pixels than 2560x1440 on the 15" rMBP, I guess they could even put a higher resolution one, but then they'd have to put a really good graphics chip, so I guess they'd refresh the current range with normal screens, then introduce a retina 21" and 27" for the high end market, like the 15" rMBP.

EDIT: @stevetheipad: Why? I think it'd be a great competitor against the Nexus 7 and Fire tablets. Especially if it had retina (which I think it will), and is priced under $250.

Apple's not that great at showing up other people, apparently.

Re: 10.28.12 Windows 8!

Considering the superior App store and stability of iDevices compared to Android devices, I think the iPad Mini will be very successful.

Yeah, I noticed this too. There's always a thousand other distros, as you pointed out.  tongue  I've visited DistroWatch before, thanks for the link though c:

I found an article regarding Windows 8's closed distribution model - it's actually the one big reason I'm not even touching the OS, I gotta admit. Seems like they're going full Apple, with ridiculous content and functionality restrictions, and outright not allowing distribution of apps outside the store (!), to me. :U Thoughts?
