Most people aren't that stupid (although I know enough that are to spread it pretty far).I'm surprised that modern computers still have these vulnerabilities.
Well, the vulnerability of the user downloading a zip file, then opening the program inside it.
This virus is usually started by a problem between the keyboard and the chair.
I'm surprised that anyone would open such a program, but I guess this could be because of how modern OSs like to hide the file extensions, which makes it easier to trick the space between the keyboard and the chair

That's why I set all of my computers to show all file extensions.
Now that I think about it, it would be just as easy to write one for Macs like that.

Yes, there have been, but because of Mac's superior Unix-like permissions system, they require an administrator password to be installed.
EDIT: Though that would be more of a malware, than a virus.

The UNIX permission system has been bypassed quite easily.
For example, look at Mac Guard, which it says does not need a password.
Also, because Macs lack good security in some areas, if I have physical access to the computer, I can reset the password easily.

Yes, but viruses don't have physical access, but someone who's trying to fix a problem does
I've never heard of that variant, but Apple has already issued a patch against that malware, so it doesn't really matter.

Macs aren't immune to viruses...
Remember the DNS changer?
Also, I don't think goo.gl/something does anything.
I'm so going to try on linux. >:)

I recently read an article about a Skype "ransomeware" virus.
Basically, if infected, it locks you out of your computer and makes you pay $200 to get your files back (and I'm not sure if it even gives you your files back after that ), and then sends it to all of your contacts on Skype.
If you get a message like this:Lol this is your profile pic?
http://goo.gl/somethingthen tell the real owner of that account that they need to get their computer fixed immediately and DO NOT CLICK THE LINK. If you do, then what I described above will happen to you.
For more information, see this cnet article
You do realize most ransomeware can be removed just by going into safe mode and removing the offending files, right?

From what I read, it wouldn't be hard to write the virus.
Yeah, I guess.
I don't use Skype, though.

You know, I think I came up with some code to make this virus for Macs.
The code I have would make it spread like this one, but it wouldn't actually do any damage. The user downloads the program, it sends a link to all their contacts, they get it, it sends the link to their contacts, etc.

Heres something to end all Mac vs PC:
One of the first viri ever written, called scores, was made for the apple mac.
Source: Computer Security, ISBN 0-8094-7566-9, page 69.
Now can we PLEASE get back on topic?no
because it's not viri: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plural_for … _-us#Virus virus was never and will never be a 2nd declension masculine
read this please
Anyway, elfin8r has(had?) it. I'm glad I found out before he sent me the thing!
viri in Latin meas 'men'. The Nominative singular of that doesn't have -us, it is just 'vir'. (it's still 2nd Declension Masculine)
Anyway, I don't have Skype so I don't havse to worry.

Isn't that basically a forced chain mail with no rewards?
