And btw, it was a paid software, cost a fortune, not some cheap antivirus scanner.

Yeah but you probably had 'Mac' habits where you didn't check anything and just downloaded stuff from everywhere.

I was actually a pro-windows guy and only used the laptop for school.

Re: Skype ransomeware virus

What do you mean by "pro-windows guy", were you in favor of Windows or were you really good at using it? In the time that I used Windows I never got a virus (a period of about 8 years). Just stay away from strange websites, don't download anything weird and make sure that what you're downloading is from a safe site.

I've never used a Mac except for in the stores.

I used computers when I was little, and I never gave my parent's computer a virus.

I got my own laptop when I was 10, and NEVER got a virus either.

all you need is a simple anti-virus program.

and some common sense.

That's interesting, considering I never click ads and had many protective programs installed.  hmm

Maybe it's because I had Vista  tongue

(From the 3 viruses I've had, 2 have been on Vista and one was on XP).

Heres something to end all Mac vs PC:

One of the first viri ever written, called scores, was made for the apple mac.

Source: Computer Security, ISBN 0-8094-7566-9, page 69.

Now can we PLEASE get back on topic?

You're acting like you have supreme power over every topic on Scratch, if it goes out of the original topic the ST will close it anyway, they do use this site you know.

I do kind of have power over my own topic. I'd prefer it if people used my topic for discussing the issue I mentioned in the first post, and was saying it there.

Now. Back on topic. Don't click any weird link, and make sure all links are safe (at least check that they look safe, ex. uawjlvr.com <> safe, plato.stanford.edu/entries/cellular-automata/ = safe.) There. Problem averted.

Re: Skype ransomeware virus

I get no viruses at all and have had this PC for a year.
I don't use skype Myself (I use google+ hangouts) the way to avoid this is to get a skype alternative (Like google+ hangouts) but will tell all my friends who have skype this.

I'm surprised that modern computers still have these vulnerabilities.

Well, the vulnerability of the user downloading a zip file, then opening the program inside it.

This virus is usually started by a problem between the keyboard and the chair.

Yeah. I think it just makes a startup script that shows the message there (but doesn't do anything with the files). According to some internet research, it's fairly easy to remove.
