Isn't there a problem with using CAS/OAuth?

So, it is said that the ST plans on using the Central Authentication Service or OAuth for Scratch 2.0.

However, I see a problem with that. It can't really be applied to an existing user bases, because there are bound to be conflicts. For example, if there is a MathWizz on the CAS that is not the same one as there is on Scratch, then that is a problem for both users. Either the MathWizz here can't access his/her account or the MathWizz on the CAS can't register here.

So, because of these problems, wouldn't it be a better idea to keep using an independent user system?

The ST will set up their own CAS with Scratch accounts.

What do you mean, exactly? Do they mean they will program their own central authentication service that can be used on other sites or something else?

I also got an email saying they are probably going to use OAuth.

I don't know about the tech behind it, but however they do it, it'll use the Scratch database.

Ok, just checking.

In that case, there will be a built-in API, right?

Well, if by API you mean a way to set it up and authenticate, obviously.  tongue
