Things in a complex economy don't happen overnight. Nobody can really expect for unemployment to go down the day he takes office; it isn't as though the recession could only be during the Bush presidency. By that trend, unemployment is lower than it was when Obama took office. Bush started the crash, Obama slowed it, and at the current trend we'd be back at early Bush presidency unemployment levels of 6%, faster if Congress actually passed Obama's plans.

Unemployment is actually not at 8%. If you include all the people who are underemployed, or stopped looking for a job, that number goes up to about 14%.

The source doesn't look too reliable...

If you listened to it, you would believe him. But I don't advise you to listen to it.

Biden seems to be doing far better in the debate than Obama did. Also, it seems that Obama/Biden is the ticket of logic and reason, by far.

I'm not watching the debate. I'll read about it tomorrow in the newspaper.
As for the second part, yes, definitely.

Also, here is Romney's plan to cut the defecit again:

Mitt Romney wrote:

1. Cut taxes by 20% for everybody
2. Keep medicare and social security as they are for a while (he said "people retired or near retiring", which can mean over 10 years)
3. Give big tax breaks to companies and the upper class
4. Increase the size of the military by a lot

When Paul Ryan was asked how it would affect the revenue, he said it's revenue neutral. When asked for some sort of information to justify it, he just kept saying it's revenue neutral. He provided nothing to actually support his claim.

Do you know the average "unemployment" following that definition?  If you change how you define a statistic, we need a reference.  8% is no longer a valid benchmark if you expand the definition of unemployment.

Well said, tbh I never even thought of that. This doesn't account at all for underemployed/given up workers from 2008.

Re: United States 2012 Presidential Election

This is just my opinion, but so far I think Biden has been kinda rude to Ryan, by continueisly interupting, and when Ryan has said things that Biden doesn't agree with, he just kinda rolls his eyes and acts like whatever Ryan is saying is *. And Biden keeps sayng stuff like, "But not too long ago you and Romney said so and so, and that is not where America needs to go. And none of all that is true because Ryan says that is not what they plan to do.

And remember, This is just my opinion.

Basically, I think Ryan is winning.

And that is different than what Romney did to Obama? Being a jerk to the moderator?

How do you know what Ryan says is true? If two people disagree, one is lying and the other is not. You can't say "Nixon said he did nothing wrong, so he is innocent." You need evidence.

@above post:
Go back over the part about Nuclear Iran, as well as the part just before the closing statements. The nuclear Iran part is an example of Obama/Biden being more logical, and the part before the closing statement is an example of Ryan interrupting.

Re: United States 2012 Presidential Election

I watched some of the VP debate. How does Ryan think that it's mathematically possible for their "budget" to lower the deficit? It's mathematically impossible, ubless we assume a growth rate of like at least 5• it's current speed. And that approach has been tried before. It doesn't work. Plus he contradicted himself and his earlier statements numerous times.

Re: United States 2012 Presidential Election

Just noticed, nice signature CN12.  tongue

Mr. Romney is likely to never get my support, because he is the candidate that gives dogs fresh-air, rooftop views, that loathes class warfare and the moocher class, that preaches fiscal responsibility and car elevators, that supports openable windows for airplanes, that uses Ann sparingly so people don't get tired of her, that supports letting Detroit go bankrupt and takes credit for the auto recovery, and that supports a woman's right to choose, unless he's running for President.

I just don't, ah, trust him to make a good president.  tongue

I need to see the facts. Because I don't think i'm got many facts from that debate, just a lot of "Ya, this will happen. bla bla" Is there some website with both Obama's and Romney's plans that I can trust for accuracy?

I can't exactly remember what stuff, because there where a few instances, but one of them was about healthcare. In theory, they are not "cutting" medicare benefits for seniors outright. However, they will be effectively removing their chances of getting healthcare.

In the insurance industry, prices and acceptance is all related to how likely you are to need them. For example, to insure a 16 year old to drive is extremely expensive, while life insurance for someone 25 years old is fairly cheap. The companies can deny whoever they want for whatever reasons they want.

If I understand the Romney-Ryan plan correctly, rather than the government directly providing medicare, those eligible for medicare can get their own private insurance from the companies, and the government pays the bill.

Think about it. Who is most likely to get a serious illness and need serious and expensive medical care? Seniors. Why, would any insurance company want to take the risk of insuring them? Either the care will be far more expensive (For everyone, remember these are tax dollars) , seniors will be left without care, or with poor quality care.

Then of course Paul Ryan isn't going to announce to the nation that he wants to remove benefits for medicare, that would make them lose the race even more sure than it is now.
