Yessssss. 

So unplayable... I died and keep falling out of them world every time i go back. I died while a zombie was attacking me and I could not move or attack or do anything.

I died too, to these same zombies, and I wasn't fast enough to save my stuff.
Could I be compensated?

Efficiency III, Unbreaking III diamond pickaxe (not sure how many uses, but it wasn't much)
Unbreaking III diamond shovel (again, not sure how many uses but not much)
Unbreaking II diamond axe (again... I had just gone on the realization that diamond is there to be used, plus I got lots of exp from nathan's grinders  )
60 melon slice
64 arrows (I hardly ever use my bow xD)

I lost more, but that's the important stuff 

Edit: @jj Well, I found this surface ravine with some zombies, and I wanted to see down to see if there were any more mobs down there, but I couldn't without going down and placing a torch xD And yes, I have my brightness on Bright.

And try using sand to make a ladder, just let it fall until you have a column, then stand on it and break down
