No, he's alpha. You're thinking of the alpha trolls (Kankri, Meenah, etc).

EDIT: To clarify, the alpha trolls, whose ancestors were alternate versions of the beta trolls, Scratched to have alternate versions of themselves become the ancestors of the beta trolls (Karkat, Nepeta etc).

The alpha kids (John, Dave etc), whose relatives were alternate versions of the beta kids, Scratched to have alternate versions of themselves become the beta kids' relatives.

Also, both alpha groups escaped being erased by the Scratch: the alpha trolls by dying just before the Scratch so god tiers wouldn't respawn; and the alpha kids by splitting into two groups, with Dave and Rose absconding to the Furthest Ring with the beta trolls while John and Jade (with the planets and everything on them) crashing a Prospitian battleship through an enlarged copy of the Fourth Wall, into Andrew's study where, despite their going as close to the speed of light as possible, they still take three years due to Weird Physics Crud.

Aren't Homestuck and really long sentences fun?

It's basically about these four 13 year olds who play a game that manipulates their environment.
Their planet is destroyed and they must stop a battle between two other planets before the evil side wins and the kids lose.
I'd rather not tell you about the trolls, because it kind of ruins the experience for you if you read Homestuck just to get to the trolls. The kids should be appreciated too.
