Re: The Scratch Chatter

Welcome back to the Scratch Chatter's Scripting Success after 6 weeks of waiting! This week, we are going to tell you about scores and those "moving numbers". Without variables! acester has created this system without variables, and Ugh2460 has released it to the world!

Ugh2460, in a project, states that orange variables are boring, but he and acester have made a much more exciting way to count. It can count up to as many digits the playing sceen can ever fit! Basically, it involves a different sprite for each digit with costumes 0-9. Ugh2460 shows you through a very easy-to-understand tutorial, with screenshots of the scripts.

Another pointer to note, many people are thanking Ugh for this tutorial, some are confused, and a few, like carter11215, believe they have simpler and easier ways of scoring without variables. This project by Ugh2460 has over 350 views and about 50 loves!

Re: The Scratch Chatter

On September 26, 2012, Lightnin, a member of the Scratch Team, announced that there woould be a second wave of users invited to test Scratch 2.0. This included all past curators, Collab Camp counselors, TBG mods, and SDS curators. Everyone was excited, even those who weren't invited. Those who weren't chosen were good sports, and congratulated those who were. The chosen ones were happy, and surely they logged in immediately. They were hoping that this wouldn't cause fits of jealousy, until they read that if anyone wanted to test 2.0 in the near future, they should commenon gobo's project, "Signup to test Scratch 2.0" and include the word signup in their comment. Sure enough, only 4 days after the project's release, there were 11 pages of comments, and the project was on the front page for being "What the Community is Viewing". jji7skyline's preview of 2.0 also hit the front page with over 200 views. This just goes to show how many Scratchers just can't wait for 2.0. As one user simply replied, "I'm excited!" And surely that comment is speaking for everyone as we await the coming release of Scratch 2.0

Next,Firedrake969 has a test acccount which was interviewed as a joke. However, we found ourselves a bit short of interviewees so this is what he told us.

Firedrake969_test joined Scratch on July 8th 2012. He was introduced to Scratch by his main account. He joined Scratch so his main account could have a place to upload projects. He hopes to make games with Scratch and his friends are Bertdog and a bunch of others. His best project is Fallout - The Dying World. He has found his experience with Scratch so far awesome. He does not have a favourite Scratcher.

Re: The Scratch Chatter

The Scratch Chatter>> Scratch Chatter Podcast>> Bugs & Glitches

This is the first ever Scratch Chatter Podcast, brought to you by chongyian! This week's topic will be Bugs  & Glitches! We are going to tell you more about what some Scratchers think!

Some Scratchers, one of them being Agg725, mentioned that the most common and irritating bug is the disappearing text bug. Some might wonder, what is the disappearing text bug about? And here we are, to enlighten you!

The disappearing text bug happens in a Scratch project. When you are working on it, there will sometimes be a scenario when the sprite labels disappear. When you are stunned and click everywhere desperately, The words in the toolbar " File, Edit, Share, Help" also disappears, making you unable to do any of the above.

When does it occur? The text bug occurs, usually when you are trying to edit a sprite's costume or a stage's background. This happens very often if your Scratch project contains a huge chunk of text.

Is there anyway to prevent that from happening? Of course, maybe if you type the text on another paint software and import it. As long as you do not use text, it is very less likely to happen to you in the middle of your projects.

So, what if it has already happened? What should you do? If the text bug occurs in the middle of your project creation proccess, first, save the project. Otherwise, all the progresses you have made after the last save will be lost. After you have saved the project, close it. Wait 1 or 2 seconds, and reopen the project again. You will now notice that all the text that was inputed with Scratch have disappeared.

There are two methods of resolving this. One of them is to edit all the backgrounds and costumes, then press ok. That might take a long time, especially if you have many of them. So, the other method is to save the project twice. The text will come back automatically after you have done so.

So, we hope this article helped.  The end!

Re: The Scratch Chatter

Article: How to get perfect gravity!
This article is about how to get perfect gravity in your games! Its quite simple really!
The following tutorial relies on the idea that black is the ground. Make a variable called gravity. You need 2 scripts. The first 1 is "When GF clicked: Forever if: <touching color black?> Set gravity to 1.   The second is When GF clicked FOREVER: IF <key [up arrow] pressed?> set gravity to 10 change Y by 10 REPEAT UNTIL <touching color black?> change gravity by -0.9 change Y by gravity   Thats the end of the script. WARNING! IN THE FIRST SMALL SCRIPT WE USE THE FOREVER IF BLOCK. IN THE SECOND AND BIGGEST SCRIPT WE USE AN IF INSIDE A FORVER BLOCK! It works best if your ground is big and not thin. If you want him jumping higher change the change gravity by -0.9 block to -0.3! THESE SCRIPTS WONT MAKE YOUR CHARACTER FALL WHEN THERE ISNT A GROUND.
