Here's my story, guys.
When I was four years old, CatCF came out in theaters.
Needless to say, it's the version I grew up loving.
Johnny's Willy Wonka was a character I grew up with. We had so much in common. We were quirky, imaginative, silly, and somewhat kooky. People found both of us annoying, but we stayed just as weird and crazy as ever. Even though the puppet scene still scares me, I grew up loving the characters, the scenery, the songs, EVERYTHING. I used to sing the Mike Teavee song ALL the time.
Then, when I was five, I saw the Wilder version.
In a dark bedroom.
It. scared. the. living. CRUD. out. of. me.
Now, don't get me wrong, I suppose the old movie has it's charm, but it's not the one I grew up with.
The Gene Wilder Wonka made me scared whenever I saw him. He was just so... uncanny. Even when he was happy and friendly, he frightened me. He wasn't anything like the Wonka I remembered, and many other things in the movie were different. It confused and scared me to no end.
In 2011, I found my CatCF book, one that I bought when the movie came out. It had JD on the cover and had a section in the book with movie pictures and quotes. After reading it, I LOVED it. However, I noticed it was much more similar to the CatCF I grew up with, and a lot less like the Gene Wilder one. Therefore, I personally have grown to like CatCF more that WWatCF.
I loved Johnny's character, I loved the similarity to the book, and I loved EVERYTHING.
I don't want to fight, but I think I'll always like the Burton version best.
Ok. The old one is creepy, and that freaking boat scene. It still scares me.

I vote for the old Gene Wilder one.
TBH the new one "scared the living crud out of me" much more so than the old.
Also the new one came out when I was young, but I grew up with the old one as I got a tape of it from a relative when I was probably 3.

Dahl was alive during the first one's release and hated it so much he demanded there not be a Great Glass Elevator movie.

Yep. Thats another reason I prefer the new one. Dahl's wife loved the new one.

As much as I love Johnny Depp and the new version, I'm going with the older one as It's a classic.
I STILL don't understand the boat scene though.

I like the Johnny Depp version. Not just because the movie was by Tim Burton, but also it was closer to the book (with the exeption of the dad part) but the older one strayed too far, and Roald Dahl (the author of the book) HATED "willy wonka and the chocolate factory" so much that he demanded they not make the sequel. They might, however, make a sequel to the new one! Oh, and "world of pure imagination" was a pretty song, but the older movie just doesn't impress me. Sorry, people who grew up with it, but I grew up with the newer CatCF.

I like the 1st one better because it's the one I grew up loving and the new one just freaks me out.
Me and sami have the exact opposite opinions of it
Also you get mad at someone for necroposting it when they like gene wilder movie, and you don't care at all when the necroposter likes the jonny depp version?

It's not a necropost if it's relevant to the topic...

Necropost is just a post on a really old, forgotten topic, not necessarily relevant or irrelevant.
Anyway, my opinions on the matter aren't very strong. I do really like the boat scene in the old one though.

I was stating facts, not telling whether or not this is one.

Well the other one was relevant to the topic also, just in the other direction, so...
