My cousin has a Windows and he needs to do fn-f2. I have a Windows and need to do f2 only.

There's a machine which turns redstone into obsidian whilst preserving the lava, if you want the lava for obsidian.

I just want lava because I like infinite resources.  Yes, I know that there's a lot of it.  I also made a cobblestone generator even though I live in a cave  .  I suppose my main use for lava is probably as furnace fuel, so I can use coal for torches (I use a lot of torches, and live in a plains biome, so wood is something of a valuable material).  Although the obsidian thing would be useful too.  I'll look in to that.
