Paint Editors

So, I finally am going to start using some sort of paint editor.  The question is, which should I use?

System specs:
Windows 7 home premium
Celeron chip
about 50 gigs of storage space left
4 gigs of RAM

List:
*Paint.NET
*GIMP

Re: Paint Editors

Depends, for tablets?

I always use Paint Tool Sai, but I've heard Illustrator is good.

Windows 7 fails with tablets.  XD
@MBA
1.  How many gigs does it use to install it?
2.  Can you use it like a regular paint editor?

My tablet works just fine with it, just not very well with multiple screens.

The point is it isn't a tablet......

By tablet I mean graphics tablet, not a phone, by the way.

And the questions weren't directed at me.

Re: Paint Editors

Well, GIMP came preinstalled for me, so I don't know how large it is.
It works for me with paint editing (very well, actually) and can make easy animations.
It does the basic photoshop things, such as pasting images on other ones and the sort.

I meant like in MS Paint.  Can it do that stuff?

You don't need a tablet but it works well with one because it has transparency and stuff, I guess. I think it would be better to get GIMP if you're using mouse though.

Re: Paint Editors

Gimp does all sorts of stuff.

With a graphics tablet, it's a great art authoring app.
Without one, it's still pretty good.
With a graphics tablet it's a great image manipulation/editing app.
Without one, it's still great.

Gimp won't take up any more than 1GB of storage, and although your celeron means that you won't be able to do lightning fast gaussian blurs and stuff, it will still be very usable.

What's your clockspeed?

4GB of RAM is plenty for Gimp, as well as maybe a browser + iTunes kinda thing.

Is this the right place for it?  If it's not, it's too late.

Re: Paint Editors

You should download from Gimp.org, although I'm not sure if it directs you to sourceforge anyway.

I simply learnt from experimentation, but if you have a specific question you can always google it or ask on the forums  smile

I have a completely unrelated question, but on Google or Bing or any other search engine, the results are weird........
And ok, thanks.

Ok.  Medium story:

Code:

I was doing a school project, which involved writing with a lot of sharpie. It took about 15 minutes. I could smell the Sharpie the whole time. Is that dangerous?

My dad is a doctor, and he tells me that I shouldn't smell sharpies too much. I have a strange liking of many smells, like petrol, WD-40 and Sharpie. Not for drug usage (definitely not), I just like the smell of them. Smelling sharpies too much is like smelling glue apparently. So if your teacher says to use a Sharpie, ask if you can use something else, but don't mention glue-smelling or you might get in trouble or something.  tongue

EDIT: Before you stop using Sharpies for the rest of your life, remember it's definitely not as bad as smelling glue, just make sure you have plenty of ventilation when using a sharpie  smile

I'm not trolling you.
