A little thing to add to the conversation (not entirely on topic, but enough so): The United States works on an Electoral College. (For more on U.S. electoral college). What that means is that there are 538 people that determine the president. And that also helps get rid of the initial part of the video in minority (but not completely) due to the fact that the votes in the Electoral college vote on how their respective state is voting. Which evens out some of the power throughout the U.S. Without the Electoral college, states such as California, New York, and Florida, will decide a huge chunk of the election (due to their high populations) An example of the minority winning is when George W Bush one in 2000. He lost to Gore by 543,895 votes, but in the electoral college he won, and so Bush became president. What this all basically is saying is that your vote might be worth more than other people's vote's.

I think Romney would have been much better off if he hadn't made all those gaffes. They've hurt his campaign more than any Obama statements or advertisement.

Seriously? Small slips of the tongue were the main thing that hurt his campaign? I don't really think it's great to judge whether or not someone can be president of the United States by the how they make slight mistakes when they talk. It's not good that he made a lot of mistakes but it would be a lot better to judge him on what he's actually saying other than dumb accidents.

Did they ever clear up whether or not Obama was even born in the US?

The national debt has increased more while Obama's been in office for not even 4 years than it did when Bush was president for 8 years. Ha! Take that Obama!

Yes. They have his birth certificate on a mug and everything I think
It was a conspiracy theory anyway

It is also the biggest depression since the Great Depression for everyone
So it's bad timing for him
But hardly 'Ha! Take that Obama!'

Small slips of the tounge are one thing, but this:

11. "I'll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry's come back." –Mitt Romney, –Mitt Romney, on the American auto industry, despite having written a New York Times op-ed in 2008 titled "Let Detroit Go Bankrupt," in which he said if GM, Ford and Chrysler got a government bailout "you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye"

Is not a slip of the tounge, it is a straight up lie. Also:
Mitt Romney himself has said that he is not qualified to be president.

@CN12: There was never anything to "clear up," he was always a US citizen. The only people who pretended that he wasn't were racist bigots who made fake Kenyan birth certificates to try to remove him from office.

Also might I add that the largest source of debt is military spending, being our many wars overseas, started by the Bush administration. Also, Republicans somehow expect that without cutting military spending or raising taxes, the deficit will go down. How exactly?

I would like to point out that posting about survival strategies for some sort of post-apocalyptic scenario is no longer a discussion of the presidential election and so is off topic.  Please keep the discussion on-topic.

Post-apocalyptic???!!!  yikes

Its only an economic collapse. Its just more important because the whole currency collapses too.

@lightnin:

I've noticed that the main criticism for formal debates is that the moderators ask silly questions like "is [whoever] a flipp flopper Mr. Governor?" - they talk about the people instead of what we really want to hear: the issues!  big_smile

No mention of candidates, only issues and solutions. This keeps the conversation focused on what is really being done, and might inspire people to read more about certain subjects.  wink

Arguing about tax returns and birth certificates goes nowhere though.  hmm  It would need to be limited.

Racism and assumption is not funny at all.

@CN12: And I see you being a future Republican. Your tone seems to be negative, though, and it's not anything that needed pointing out so why mention it?

I was just using the format that CN12 initiated.
I agree that I think our opinions can be well-formed enough to belong to a political group.

This. Just because you're not old enough doesn't mean you can't have an opinion. You may not have an opinion I agree with/one well grounded, but then again many adults don't either. You have your preference of party just like an adult.

Also, how exactly do you know that? Because I know that Obama has released his birth certificate (multiple times)? Or because I understand this formula:

debt=expenses-revenue

?
To reduce the debt either expenses must go down or revenue must go up. So either we must cut programs that don't do us any good (like wars in Afghanistan where Americans are dying) or we must increase revenue from taxes.

Anybody gonna watch the debate tomorrow? I am at least going to watch some of it for sure.

Also, on the theme of watching things, did anyone see the National Conventions? I watched highlights of both-- they were pretty interesting.

I actually get to vote this year. That's exciting.  smile
