Editing Posts does not work...

I can't edit any of my posts, nor can I delete them. And don't you think that 3 minutes between posts is a little much? I've never run into the block before a few minutes ago, and it was a bit of an annoyance. I don't post much around here, but let's say someone else was trying to have some kind of discussion or having a question answered and they made a mistake in their post that could provide the others with more information, or the correct information. Some other users are online who can answer the question but they are now replying to the uncorrected post without vital information. The users reply and while the OP has to wait, they have already left to go do other things. With this system, communication is affected, and simple problems might take hours or even days to solve if people don't use the forums every day. I think you should lower the waiting time, or at least allow people to edit their posts.

Under your username (and mine, but that's not the point) you'll see "New Scratcher" meaning that you have the New Scratcher rank. This means you have a 180 second rule, and you cannot edit/delete posts. This will change when you have been here for a while and has been active.

Are you telling me that they limit the people who need the most help?

It's designed to prevent spammers.

Usually spam bots don't edit their posts, if that's what you mean...

However, trolls might create an account, post something, and then edit/remove it before a moderator sees it.

Anyway, to become a Scratcher, post projects, post comments, and help people.

If a post is reported 4 times by different accounts that have Scratcher status, it’ll get temporarily removed. Instead of seeing the post, you’ll see a message explaining the situation. The system will also temporarily block the account that made the post. As soon as the Scratch Team or a mod checks it out, they’ll either restore the post (and unban the account that shared it), or remove it if it’s not ok for Scratch. This is similar to the way flagging of projects works on the main site.

This feature of the site should be more than enough to prevent a "troll" from posting something. If at least 4 people report the post, the person would be banned and most likely never to return, and I doubt someone would delete a post before at least several times that many people have seen it if they are seriously trying to be a nuisance (not to mention that they can't tell how many times their topic has been reported already). Added to the fact that "New Scratchers" can't post pictures or links anyways, I think having editing disabled is unnecessary, and should be enabled for everyone.

Even so, it is better to prevent the problem in the first place than to make it easier to solve if it happens. Also, even if the post is hidden, mods have to look at it, which puts a large strain on the moderation resources. This way is much easier, because the mods don't have to deal with anything like that.
Anyway, upload projects, comment on others' projects, and keep active, and you will become a Scratcher. I know the exact requirements from looking at the site source, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say.

Re: Editing Posts does not work...

The new scratcher status is mainly there for this. I recommend just making a lot of projects, it's much easier than posting a lot.

If you want something to do while Scratch is down, check out tbgs.tk! It's the new version of the (closed) Scratch TBGS, run by Scratchers! I'm going to spend most of my time there, anyway.

Actually, the requirements have nothing to do with posts.

It's because the cant afford to be attacked by whatever. They need to make this community as safe as possible. If you made an error, though, you can ask a mod to edit your post.

As I said in my example, the helping users could leave within the span of 3 minutes. Moderators aren't on all of the time, and they are probably busy when they are. I know I can report the post to be edited, but that still doesn't really cover the reasons I'm saying we need to be able to edit.

If you're having a problem with the new scratcher system it's better to directly contact the scratch team.

I don't think I should bother them over something so trivial... Or that they should worry about something so trivial...

If you really want something edited, report your post and explain the mistake and the moderators/admins will edit it for you.
