Under your username (and mine, but that's not the point) you'll see "New Scratcher" meaning that you have the New Scratcher rank. This means you have a 180 second rule, and you cannot edit/delete posts. This will change when you have been here for a while and has been active.

Usually spam bots don't edit their posts, if that's what you mean...

However, trolls might create an account, post something, and then edit/remove it before a moderator sees it.

Anyway, to become a Scratcher, post projects, post comments, and help people.

Okay would you rather anarchy?? Like people posting shock images all the time or something?

The new scratcher status is mainly there for this. I recommend just making a lot of projects, it's much easier than posting a lot.

This feature of the site should be more than enough to prevent a "troll" from posting something. Added to the fact that "New Scratchers" can't post pictures or links anyways, I think having editing disabled is unnecessary, and should be enabled for everyone.

It's because the cant afford to be attacked by whatever. They need to make this community as safe as possible. If you made an error, though, you can ask a mod to edit your post.

As I said in my example, the helping users could leave within the span of 3 minutes. Moderators aren't on all of the time, and they are probably busy when they are. I know I can report the post to be edited, but that still doesn't really cover the reasons I'm saying we need to be able to edit.

Only Scratchers can edit their posts. New Scratchers can't.
