This is the idea-work for the Oriole Collab. If you want to join, you missed your chance.

Alright, so... I'll update the first post once we start to get story, gameplay, etc. ideas.

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

Any ideas?

I think we should stick with it being a platformer.

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

Maybe a game where the player sails from island to island?

We could even have the sailing top-down, and when you get to a town or dungeon, it becomes a platformer again!

That seems cool

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

yeah...so we should start on a story line...

let's play a game, we tke turns and give a sentence each for the story lineeach, and when we have 200 sentences, we start ending it?
Let's call the player Tom for now.

1) Tom spawns on an island, hungry with no food, he only can find a boat, but he has to go through a few levels of platformers to reach the boat.

(I'll upload my platformer maps soon...i drew them on paper, so most likely they'll be photos...

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

2) There are mysterious walls in Tom's way, and there is only one island he can sail to, which is a mysterious village.

I will draw my ideas for the village.

3) In the mysterious village there was an ancient tribe, who believed in The Twelve (could be evil sorcerers or necromancers)

4) The evil characters are always after Tom, and he had to avoid them to reach the boat.

and remember, this game is to be a combined non-scrolling platformer and a scrolling top down boat.

5) When he reaches the boat, they take much faster boats and chase him (so basically the player has to trick the CPU into bumping into obstacles like whirlpools)

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

okay, a scroller opponent would be hard, but still...

6) If he fails to reach the targeted place within a certain time limit, he has to restart.

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

Let's pause the storyline here, and try to make a movement engine. I'll make one sometime this morning, and post it to my Test Account.

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

ZType, could you make the platformer movement engine? It should be pretty simple. I would like velocities, and smooth gravity, using the color black as the ground.

Don't worry about any glitches/faulty programming, I'll fix them.

Re: Oriole Collab: Ideawork

Here's what I have in mind for the village:
http://i47.tinypic.com/33clqon.jpg
You would encounter the bad guy, who tells you his plans, and then claims nothing can stop him, and then he leaves

Here's what I had in mind for the first dungeon:
http://i50.tinypic.com/287n9mf.jpg
Sorry for the badly drawn lines, I was in the car when I made this. The only special gameplay element the first dungeon would have is buttons, which open/close doors/trapdoors. This took about an hour to make. Phew!

Here's what I had in mind for the first boss:
http://i48.tinypic.com/5mio9d.jpg
Pretty self explanatory. It would be very similar to the third boss in one of my personal favorite of my games, Adventures of Chain.

What are you guys' thoughts?
