I like to buy because I feel more obligated to read it if I have paid for it
also it supports the author better, and many authors don't make particularly good money from writing.

I planned to read them in random order, but I only read about half of the original series (in random order, mind you) before I got bored.

I've only read the 1-10 in the old books (original), and none of the new books (like vespers rising), with the exception of the black book of buried secrets.
