We don't even have a TV. We do have a TV in our fridge, but our TV antenna is broken, so that doesn't work either  tongue

I do watch Top Gear, Mythbusters and Scrapheap Challenge online though  tongue

I was pretty sure of it before, but I am now sure this is a sarcasm/troll topic.

Re: vista fanclub

I'm not a huge fan of vista. I used to use it, then I used linux, and then I realized how sucky and slow vista was.

Also, Win 7 is shinier and stuff.

This is a temporary signature. It will exist until I think of something witty.

Windows 7 still doesn't visually please me, but it does compared to Vista.

Re: vista fanclub

Vista's pretty slow, and it doesn't have as much support as other OSs.

I like the new look of Windows 8.

Re: vista fanclub

I've never understood how Vista is uglier than Windows 7, it looks fine to me. The only other OS I've used for long enough to kind of know about it is XP on my school computers and I think they both look OK but in different ways. I don't know about it being slower though.

Re: vista fanclub

Vista is nice and pretty (Its taskbar looks alot nicer than 7's), but 7 is overall alot more stable and refined. Linux is the best though. :3

Re: vista fanclub

I'll amend my feelings about Windows 8, as I really don't think I've expressed my feelings properly.

I think the Metro interface of Windows Phone is beautiful, and not the bland iOS/Android rows of icons. On a desktop PC interface though, I think it's the wrong direction.

In other words, Apple owns any rectangle with round corners?  0.o  It owns all computer screens, pretty much.  Nothing is perfectly 90 degrees.

For those that don't know how to read patents properly (let's be honest, unless you are a lawyer you probably don't), the solid black lines represent the part of the design being patented. The dotted lines are not part of the patent, they are just to provide context for the rest of the application. As you can see, the rounded corner shape of the iPhone is covered under the patent.

I'm running it now in VirtualBox and its quite weird and doesn't fit. I can see it working okay in a tablet or phone environment, but definitely not on a desktop computer, for that, it sucks.

Re: vista fanclub

@skittles

Wow. That's a really specific thing to patent.

Also I read over the patent and I'm not a lawyer (by the way: do you know how to read patents properly? because I never thought of you as a lawyer type) but it looks like they're patenting:

-the shape (rounded rectangle of those proportions)
-the fact that there's some kind of smaller rectangle inside the rectangle
-the home button? this wasn't really consistent, neither was the speaker thing at the top.
-the screen itself, which is only in a solid line sometimes so I'm not really sure.

Anyway I think it's only if the electronic that's stealing has all those things. It's not just that rounded rectangle shapes of around that size are patented because then all phones would have to be weirdly shaped and pointy.

i seriously think it's quite good and there's nothing wrong with it. i haven't found the start menu obtrusive after using it almost daily for over a month. i also like the design of the side bar things.

I'm not a lawyer, and it's quite possible that I'm reading them wrong  tongue  The thing is that I like to know things. If someone tells me "Apple has a patent on rounded corners," I'm going to want to find the evidence. So, I went through looking at patents, and one of the articles that I read (On Engadget I think) it said that quick guide.  tongue

Anyway, the analysis you had is pretty much spot on. The shape, the screen (as opposed to the entire front, the smaller rectangle is the LCD itself), and the home button. As I am not a lawyer I don't know if all of the elements must be infringed upon to make the case suable.

The validity of this patent is not part of the question: the general consensus is that the patent is invalid, and the patent system isn't ready for the digital age.

I find the whole "move mouse to very edge of screen to open menu" thing kinda odd and unhepful, don't you?
