It's just fun. Some people might argue that it's mean, but I personally blame the servers that I grief for not having server logs or a backup system. Plus, it's fun
My latest grief was on a new server that had quite a few plugins, but a HUGE glitch--when I used Nodus, it somehow turned my mode to creative, so I utterly destroyed the spawn castle, which unfortunately, couldn't be rollbacked. Hope it teaches them to install anti-grief plugins.
Discuss griefing Minecraft servers.

It's only okay if the rules don't go against it. Otherwise, it is mean to destroy hard work put into something.

I don't find it momentally fun. At all. Put yourself in other people's shoes, and think about how'd they feel if you destroyed a creation they worked hard on. I wouldn't want to destroy someone's hard work (You know, unless it's a factions server which allows griefing, raiding, pvp, etc.).
I'm probably also strongly against it because I've moderated, administrated, and owned quite a few servers.

Well yeah, but I wouldn't want to spend my time on a build and then have it destroyed.
Unless it was creative and it wasn't a complex redstone contraption, then I wouldn't really care as much/

Not really an excuse.
I've played a lot of games where people are just jerks, then say "It's just a game", their being jerks is making me not have fun, which is what I spent real life money to do. It's also real life time, if I spent hours and hours building something in Minecraft just to have it destroyed I wouldn't just think "ah well, it's just a game" because I'd remember the hours of work that went into it, hours that could've been spent doing something useful.
Griefers overall are annoying, they're normally the ones who whine the most when their stuff is destroyed, most of them only do it because they're scared it'll happen to them, and if you're actively targeting servers that can't undo your damage that just shows that you make entertainment out of other's suffering.

I really dislike griefers. I once made this huge house with underground passages and everything but when I came back, it was all destroyed.

I share this opinion.

It can be quite fun, though the closest thing I've done is deleting noobs' stuff in ROBLOX and annoying some kids in a TF2 idle server. I'd say the best way to protect your creations from griefers is not playing online. Or making sure your server is secure enough.

What? You're a GRIEFER?!
Not cool, bro. Not cool.
Let's get this straight, I'M NOT A GRIEFER. I grief servers that are new or vanilla just for the fun of it, and most of what I grief are small houses and stuff, not the Mona Lisa of Minecraft. I grief on servers that I don't play on, I just go there to grief. Technically, I'm not a griefer, because I do actually play on a ton of servers, and I've never griefed on those.

Griefing is bad. Even in Vanilla/ new servers. And remember, a server that you don‘t go on much can be the favorite server of someone else.
Also, why having fun by destroying the others‘ work? Even the smallest thing can mean something to a person. What if you take 2 hours to make something, then someone goes and destroy it? 2 hours of your life wasted. It happened with me.
But, if the server allows griefing, then go ahead and blow up everything! Enjoy being the most hated person in Minecraft.

video games arent the most productive things ever so arent those 2 hours wasted either way? :P
but yeah griefing sucks unless used on, say, pvp servers for a tactical advantage

I pointed a gun to my mouth as you explained how GRIEFING is fun. I tried it when I first got Minecraft and it wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The next day I was taken off the whitelist.

I grief on Classic occasionally, but only because Classic servers have a feature that lets ops undo all of your actions.
